I really dig this album and I never see it listed on any great debut threads so lets discuss it.
I prefer side B to A but the flow of the album is perfect

I wouldn't call it great by any stretch of the imagination. Most of the songs are fairly pedestrian and uninteresting. Nothing on the debut is as good as Jackie Blue.

"Spaceship Orion is there, waiting to part the air above you" - what a great song, and a great time.

‘ Colorado Song ‘ evokes exactly what I envision the state looks like. Great album, has gained a healthy word of mouth following in Oz, as have later albums.

I love the Ozarks and this is my very favorite of theirs. What a great combination of Rock and Country. In my opinion, better than anything the Eagles or Poco put out and I love them both. My favorite songs are "Country Girl", "Spaceship Orion", and "Within Without". I also feel there is not a bad track on the album. Even "Chicken Train" which was the first song I heard by them. I was very pleased to see that that was not their signature sound though.

This is one of my favourite albums and I have a lot of great memories attached to the music.

Country Girl, Spaceship Orion, Colorado Song, Road To Glory and Within Without are the cream of the crop here for me but everything is good and I play the whole album through every time I spin it.

A very strong debut in my opinion. They could really write some quality songs and play their asses off and it doesn't stop here. I also love It'll Shine When It Shines, The Car Over The Lake Album and Men From Earth but really, once you get a taste for their music (which came easy for me), it's hard to go wrong with anything they did. Great songwriters and great musicians and the music is recorded very well.

That first album though, will always hold a special place in my heart.

I’d also add that this fine record has stellar production by the legendary Glyn Johns (and David Anderle) recorded at Olympic Studios in London. Johns had good things to say about the Daredevils in his biography ‘Sound Man’.

At least 3 or 4 great songs. Got them on a playlist with some picks from a few of their other albums.
I place them with Poco, Little River Band, etc. as far as vibe...

My favorite album from them. This has been in my play pile for years. Anytime I'm down this album can get me out of it. Standin' on the Rock is my fav by far. Just to let ya know Colorado Song describes my state fairly well.

Awesome debut, one of my favorites before I knew the difference between rock & country rock, it was all just good music to me then.

This monarch pressing is sounding mighty sweet. Thanks for the starting this thread and encouraging me to play this under appreciated recording today. Spaceship Orion brings me back to a place and time that is very emotional, everything a great song can do for your soul.

Something about "Within Without" is pure and perfect to me. A friend of mine introduced me to this tune on a particularly trippy evening.

I bought this LP when it first came out, I must have seen it advertised in a music mag. Loved it, loved them.

I'm one of the few who didn't like Jackie Blue when it came out, but most of their other stuff resonated with me. Sad to say, the only music (CD) I have by them now is Time Warp, The Very Best Of.

Time for an OMD box set!
