I could replace Fuh You with Nothing For Free. On the other hand I don t need to. My first version of Egypt Station is the japanese shm-cd that contains Get Started and Nothing For Free as bonus-tracks. Apart from that bonus that CD sounds great
Of course I also have the explorer edition if that counts.
Just like most others here I guess
I think Nothing For Free might be superior to Fuh You but I like them both a lot. Im not sure I think any of those two are the best of the Tedder produced track though. We ll get to the third one soon ENOUGH

    Nothing For Free

A good song with a great arrangement and a powerful ending, in which Paul is rocking and having fun.

    Lyrics:

    Okay, okay, okay

I wonder why you're coming to me
I think you must want something for free
I try to work out what I could say
But my brain's not working today

    I know you need something
    You were talking to me
    You were talking to me
    I know you need something
    Well, what can it be?
    Well, what can it be?
    I know you need something
    You're talking to me
But you don't get nothing for free

Okay, okay, okay (Nothing's for free)

You've got a real cool way about you
Is there a lot you want me to do? (Yeah)
I'd love to help out in any way
But my brain stopped working today

    I know you need something
    You were talking to me
    You were talking to me
    I know you need something
    Well, what can it be?
    Well, what can it be?
    I know you need something
    You're talking to me
But you don't get nothing for free

I want to tell you what it means to me
I love you every way and now, and now
    But I can't make up my mi-mi-mind

    Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah

I wonder why you're coming to me
I think you must want something for free
I'd love to help out in any way
But-but my brain stopped working today

  3. David Cassidy did a nice cover of that super Macca deep track, as late as 5 years after Paul first released it! More upbeat, and with some good, rocking vocals.

I'm SO sad it wasn't on the album, it in addition to Get Started would have lifted it even higher!

    NEXT ONE
    Get Enough
Third Tedder track. When this one arrived I felt a bit infifferent but the song has grown massively for me. Some reject this song because of the production. I don t really mind it it s like a mix of Bon Iver and towards the end Beach Boys/Beatles, What I do like is the song which has a gorgeous melody and very memorable and reflectice lyrics. Behandla all the effects Paul also gives a stellar vocal perfomance
This one is actually my favorite among the three Tedder tracks but I do love em all
    Song facts
“Get Enough” is a song by Paul McCartney which was unexpectedly released on streaming platforms as the calendar turned to 2019 at 12 a.m. Eastern time. It has been co-written with Ryan Tedder, making it the 3rd song written by the two to be released, after “Fuh You” and “Nothing For Free“.

“Get Enough” is a piano ballad that features heavy use of auto-tune to alter McCartney’s voice for effect. From RollingStone:

Paul McCartney transforms a lovelorn piano ballad into a wandering, auto-tuned experiment on “Get Enough.” […] “Get Enough” opens as a straightforward pop tune, with McCartney meditating on melancholy memories (“Do you remember the lights on the shore?”). But the arrangement and production gradually shift, weaving in acoustic guitars, grandiose chord changes, a barely audible spoken word passage and thick vocal processing that lands somewhere between Bon Iver and Kanye West. […]

“Get Enough” features artwork reminiscent of 2018’s Egypt Station, possibly alluding to the deluxe edition of the album, announced in June 2018 but not released yet.
It was a time when we walked by the docks
I told you, "I need you all of my life"
And watching the tugs rolling by together
    Do you remember?
Do you remember the lights on the shore?
How they reflected the rain on the road?
I believed that you love me alone
    It was real
    Do you remember?
Now and then I see your face
I've been wanting a lovin' embrace
I've been looking for love, but it gets me nowhere
    Oh, yeah, yeah (Uh)
Get enough, get enough, get enough of (Your love, uh)
Get enough, get enough, get enough of (Your love)
    I can't get enough of
    Of you
It was a time we were all full of hope
    Saw the future burning bright
As we watched the moon rollin' out to sea
    Do you remember?
But those days are erased from my mind
Yeah, I've left all those old days behind
But still I remember your face forever, forever
Get enough, get enough, get enough of (Your love, uh)
Get enough, get enough, get enough of (Your love)
    I can't get enough of
    Of you
    Ooo-oo-ooh
All of your love, all of your love
All of your love, all of your love
I think maybe I should, go back to nature, traditional
And reexamine the art that you've ever seen, tried and traditional
I think it's time we all go together
    We all want more
Get enough, get enough, get enough, girl
Get enough, get enough, get enough, girl
    I can't get enough
    Enough of you

Writing/composition talent seems to be a bit rarer.

Remove the Tedder "Wall of Processed Sound" and there's an okay song lurking within, although some of the "Get Enough" parts will never be that tuneful. I'm not sure the instrumental part beginning two minutes in quite fits with the rest but it's probably the best part of the track. As it is, for me, this is sadly another sub-Fuh You track.

So, 1/5 for the track as it is and maybe a high 2.5/5 for the de-Tedderised version that never was. :)

    Confession time.
When I bought ' Egypt Station ' on release I didn't even realize the bonus tracks were bonus tracks.
When I went to the store they had dozens of copies of the CD with different coloured ribbons wrapped around them. They all had the same track listing.
I got the one with the green ribbon.

Get Enough - came in for some stick on this board when released, I think it's a beautiful piece of music the bridge especially might be my fave moment from the whole sessions. James Blake would do a great cover of this.... 4/5

It s nice to see there vare other fans of Get Enough here. It s a beautiful song. I can well understand the production ain t everybody's cup of tea. I don t mind Paul trying things new and at it s heart Get Enough is a classic Paul piano-ballad. The melody is exqusite and the lyrics reflective and somehow haunting. There are some unusual harmonic textures in the songs structures that I find both a bit minimalistic and grand at the same time.
Personally I enjoy the arrangement that in it s own way is both rather modern but also a bit old-school in parts. I remember Tedder said in an interview that Paul made a grand vocal performance on a demo of the song. It would be nice to hear that one to but at the moment Get Enough are among my favorite tracks from the session-something I never believed when I first heard it.
A brilliant piece of moody music
As mentioned great lyrics to like this sample -another proof how good a lyricist Paul can be when he chooses to.

Glad you brought up the subject of the lyrics ...
'Egypt Station ' finds McCartney in fine form in the lyric department. A minimum of twee and careless lyrics.

    Get Enough: 1/5

If you are able to clear your mind . . . and I mean REALLY clear your mind of your hatred and vitriol towards the use of autotune on this song, then maybe, just maybe you might be clear-headed enough to see that there is a nice song here. Production fail. Amazing orchestral release in the middle.

    I don t mind Auto-Tune
Just as any other effect is more a matter of how it is used
In Get Enough it s used to good effect
IMO most ever pop/rock recording from any era is processed in the way technology at the time made it possible. Elvis Sun recordings might be a good early example
I don t mind Paul trying out different sounds from time to time. He has always done that from the Beatles and onwards. Sometime it doesn’t t work out but most of the time it does.
My one objection to Get Enough it that it ends to soon. Every time I listen to it I have to put it on repeat to GET ENOUGH

That's insane! This is supposedly the worst song of the sessions. Its criminal what Tedder did to this possible would have been classic! This treatment is what young Paul would have done with this song.

I think there is a raw solo-piano version with Paul that will be released 20 years from now.
Unlike you I think Get Enough has a peoduction that suits the song. It took a while for me to realise that but it s a great song and dare I say a great recording

Get Enough 9/10 for what it could be and 0/10 for the production, 7/10 for what it is.
