John Hughes directed, produced, and/or wrote a lot of memorable pictures in the 80s and 90s. Pick your top 3. It was too hard for me to pick one and am curious how the list will rank.

It's Saturday afternoon, and if there were a marathon on TV right now I'd be watching everything through Dutch. And you're asking me to pick three?

    I can't. I just can't.

My John Hughes picks are similar as follows:

I went with the original Vacation, Sixteen Candles, and Home Alone.
Honorable mention to The Breakfast Club, though Weird Science might actually be more fun to watch, so that works too.

    *The Breakfast Club
    *National Lampoon's Vacation
    *Sixteen Candles

John Hughes worked with some amazing actors, a big range of 80's period Teen films so *3 more for a 2nd batch.

Though I'm sure no one will vote it in the top 3, I think of of Hughes' underrated movies is Only The Lonely, starring John Candy, Ally Sheedy, and Maureen O'Hara. It has a modern day feel to the 1955 classic Marty. Just thought I'd mention it, since it flies under the radar of the other Hughes classics. Just a nice enjoyable film.

The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink were a huge deal for me in 1985/86, so those get my vote, along with Ferris Bueller because it was undeniably great for its time.

Some Kind Of Wonderful close behind. Sixteen Candles (for Molly Ringwald and Thompson Twins), and Weird Science (for absolute daftness) also worth a mention.

Nope - this is easily in my top 3. Actually, my 3 all are John Candy movies: Only the Lonely, Uncle Buck & Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Glad to hear someone else appreciates it! All 3 are great choices. Candy and Hughes, and their families, were really close. Candy's death in 1994 really shook John Hughes quite a bit. 2 Legends for sure. Sorely missed!

I'm not surprised it's not getting any votes with much better movies on the list, but Dennis the Menace was pretty good. I had no idea John Hughes was involved.

The Breakfast Club (in my top 10 favorite films)
    Ferris Bueller
    Some Kind of Wonderful

My top five would be rounded out with Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Home Alone.

I watched Sixteen Candles for the first time last year and I think it has aged appallingly. The five I picked all hold up very well.

He reminded me of my buddy's oldest brother. Paxton was a great douche in that film!
