Because that's what these bootleg LPs are called?

Yeah, I know that, but what is the significance of them being called extraction tapes? I expect that they were named that way for some reason.

I just thought you might know since you seem to be well informed about them. It's fine if you don't know.

Maybe someone else here knows what they would be referring to by the term.

It's been reported many times over the years. Nick Mason has mentioned this as well. The reason why the band won't release these is because they're raw stereo line feeds and can't be mixed to their standards.

I don't know why they are called Extraction. Perhaps someone was attempting a clever play-on-words as an alternate to Immersion?

A 5.1 and/or quad disc is a must. Otherwise I will not buy it, like I didn't buy the Wall box for this very reason.

Yeah cos it makes it sound like the versions on these releases are just elements of the final mixes extrapolated from the multitracks, when they are early alternate versions.

2 track nagra sbd recordings are probably pretty good. I'd be willing to bet they sound better than the live The Wall release, which was actually multi-track, but really doesn't sound very good.

I'd say that's a pretty good bet. And I kneel before you!

Well it`s been a long time since the last immersion boxes.I think we all agree what not to include. The bonus cd content is all great.I can`t see why they don`t just release a couple more smaller scale sets for Animals and Piper and just include unreleased music with basic packaging.

  10. The gimmicky packaging is a built-in excuse to charge a higher price.:shh:

The live version of The Wall sounds fine, but get the original release from 2000, mastered by Doug Sax.

    On the topic of Animals...Immersion:

    Disc 1: Original album
Disc 2: Rough mixes, demos, etc.
Discs 3 and 4: Soundboard recording of a complete 1977 show
    Disc 5: * for you blu-ray lovers*
    5.1 Surround Sound mix (2009) (96 kHz/24bit)
4.0 Quadrophonic mix *if there was one* (96 kHz/24bit)
    LPCM 2.0 Stereo Mix (1975) (96 kHz/24bit)

Where did you get the info a 5.1 mix was completed in 2009? From my understanding James Guthrie has always wanted to do a 5.1 mix of Animals however the project has never been attempted. I believe he said this publically at the Princeton PF event.

I meant to edit that. I just copied and pasted the same options from the Wish You Were Here set, rather than type it out. Tempting though.

Any chance of this seeing a release before I die? They should have done this instead of TW.

Wrong part of London for that. Battersea is in South London, Chelsea in West London. Now,if you'd said Millwall, that would have been more believable: their stadium is just a few km down that rail track.
