OK, I did some more comparing today and I definitely prefer my Harvest Japan Blackface CD (BT mastering) to the 2003 SACD. The latter has great clarity, but unfortunately sounds harsh during a number of passages on the album. I also think the 2003 has some odd EQ choices that don't allow all of the sound to come through. I hear this in the guitar tone especially.
Rectal Digititus- Exactly why I gifted it. Not sure if it's the converter's they're using or what, but as with the 2011's and most of Gabriel's remasters, it's like the soul has been removed for the sake of 'clarity' Not something I'm a fan of.
I have a DOT Physical Exam every three years... It's not fun, Some of these mastering's induce an emotion quite like the impeding intrusion that guys about to receive in that GIF
I can be a bit dramatic... What's your address, I'm gifting you 10 of my 2011's + Duran Duran remasters and as an added bonus Pet Shop Boys-Disco 2
Figured this would be the best place to ask this and saves making a new thread. I found a Harvest blackface last week and picked it up for $8 but not sure if it is a Japan for Europe or Japan for US
Can you provide all the matrix info? A magnifying glass is helpful in these situations A picture of the face would help as well!
I have a feeling the Harvest CDs are imports to the US (there were plenty of imports in the early days of CDs). The original Harvest issue has Made in Japan on the rear insert and one page 2 of the booklet. Subsequent issues have print in England on page 10 of the booklet.
It looks like it has something written in the hub, but it doesn't have a CBS/Sony matrix. The release should have Japan inserts.
Mine says Made in Japan on the back as it does in the booklet. Im not bothered by whether its a US or European release I just like to be accurate for my Discogs collection.
As I said, I believe the Harvests are UK/European/maybe other markets, but not US. Pink Floyd was released on Capitol in the US, apart from the Columbia albums, which weren't released on Capitol until the Columbia deal expired.
10A1 is not CBS/Sony (you can have 1A1, 11A1, 21A1, ..., 51A1, 51A2, but not 10A1, 12A1, 20A1, ...). It may have been available in the US. It may even have been the first CD of this title in the US. But I don't consider it an US issue. I wouldn't considered an Abbey Road black triangle to be an US issue either, even if you did buy a copy at Tower Records in Los Angeles.
Ok, imported from Japan by record shops for sale in the US Japan had it's own, with the usual OBI and Japan writing on the rear. So I look as this one as a Japan For the US market.
You got a good one. Same mastering as the Japan for Japan black triangle. Despite the same mastering, some here assert that the black triangle sounds better. But not by much. You've got the hailed mastering. How do you like it compared to others?
Yeah, maybe directly from Japan, or from Japan via the UK. There are plenty of imported CDs floating around the UK from the early days. I have a couple of classical CD releases by Kazune Shimizu. I don't think they got a release outside Japan, and I think they were deleted fairly early.
