I'm still working on getting around to listening to it sober... but I doubt your going to find anyone who has folded down DSOTM. People love DSOTM for all the "tricks" it used in stereo.

I agree - I love real dedicated mono mixes, but there's no reason to fold down anything, certainly not DSOTM.

I converted to mono and then back to stereo. It's awesome.

I think you can read 1000 pages about this (give or take a few) in the Beatles US box set threads.;)

I think I've learnt all I need to know from this forum, thank you! :D But I'll start saving my pennies now anyway. ;)

I'd be curious what a 5.1 mono mix would sound like.

    These quite appeal to me...

But I'll have to rein myself in now- don't want to be giving Universal too many ideas... :hide:

I used to have this LP.....

So the temptation to post my little variants above was pretty overwhelming! I was picturing the 'mono' one, as I went to bed last night.. :help:

One thing I do love is a good album sleeve spoof (I'm funny that way :D) especially when it's such a recognisable classic as this; how many have there been of Abbey Road, for example?

But I did wonder afterwards, whether Jake was asking if it had been folded for AM radio play? I don't know, but a dedicated mix made back in the day would be fascinating to hear (like Ram, for example!)

Money was lifted as a single in the UK, I wonder if there was a mono fold of that for US radio? :)

This really makes me laugh b/c I was waiting for the time when I could launch a snark campaign directed at the mono lovers saying that if DSOTM had a dedicated mono mix, there would undoubtedly be Forum folks lauding the "punchiness" and "better bottom end" and whatnot. I've been preempted!

As to custom mixes I've heard a stereo version made from 70% front and 30% rear of the old quad mix. It's an interesting listen but to a little too cluttered to my ears that have the perfectly mixed stereo irrevocably burned in. Never tried messing with the 5.1 mix. Anyone?

Oddly enough, a mono mix would go better with the newly released Wizard of Oz in 3-D.

This is a great idea! I would love to do a comparison between a mono mix DSOTM paired with The Wizard of Oz in 3-D and my current go to duo of DSOTM 5.1 SACD paired with The Wizard Of Oz: 75th Anniversary DVD.

Well, there's Audacity you can download for free - this will do this really easily. There are others, but that's a really well-known one.

And there's a lot of fun you can have experimenting with the effects in there and so on, too. :)
