Where now if you want to hear versions which are pretty properly how they played Money in that era you have to listen too Knebworth or Venice for a more real representation of that song. I get them removing the bass solo's but in hindsight not the best idea. Live shows should be true to how they were performed that night. The re-working of the backing vocals and the reggae section on DSOT is a silly edit. Knebworth 90 is the best version of Money from this era now on the live album and concert footage. Or just stick to the original 1988 mix of DSOT for Money when listening to the album
Oddly enough, the smaller box sets tend to exist in two versions - Delicate Sound of Thunder was the only one that included both DVD and Blu-Ray.
I get why The Later Years (or boxes of that size) have both its practical. I just don't think they should 'count' duplication and call it a 10 disc box when really it's 5 discs. The Later Years is the worst example of this...even packing in separate sleeves etc. When they could easily have had the DVD and Blu Ray in a gatefold sleeve.
Questions/thoughts on the The Later Years and related releases: I believe the releases happened like this: Full set in Dec 2019 DSOT in Nov 2020 Knebworth in April 2021 AMLOR in Oct 2021 Are we likely to see a Pulse set (hopefully 2 CD/BR, similar to what was done for DSOT)? If so, are we likely to see it in mid-2022? (based on the timing laid out above) Any chance of seeing a similar set (audio and video) for Venice? I think there's enough there (unlike 7-song Knebworth), but they may see it as too similar to Pulse for general sale. I assume that the audio-only nature of the Knebworth release effectively rules out any video release of that (outside the full set). I'm interested in anything they spin off from that set.
When they do re-release Pulse on Blu-Ray i hope they include the Earls Court rehearsal footage and the documentary from TLY as well as Bootlegging The Bootlegger's from the DVD but i am not keeping my hopes up on that as it will prob be a release similar too the upcoming AMLOR boxset with extras from that era and tour. As i doubt they will include the Live Album most likely be a standalone Blu-Ray release with the other extra's from the box set included. As we know James Guthrie blocked them from touching the audio on the Pulse footage as the audio for the CD/DVD/Blu-Ray is a good mix. If it was to be remixed i would like James to do it with the live album as its long overdue.
The *album* was actually remastered a few years back but that remaster has only been released on the vinyl LP reissue.
I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t believe they will reprise the extras from the original DVD release (which still is my definitive go-to version for this very reason). I also don’t see what they can put out as an audio companion, other than a re-reissue of the vinyl box. The full Earls Court show on vinyl? But what would they call it? RePulse?
How does a hired hand A) have rights, and B) have rights that supersede those of the artist? No disrespect to Guthrie, but however world-class he is, he was a specialist brought in to perform technical work on a piece of work they'd already created. (I suppose I'll just never understand how rights work.)
yeah from what i have heard it was only a minor remaster minor things changed in the mix not that different from the original release. It still sounds good though a few bits here and there in certain songs slightly louder in the mix thats it though.
Yeah its the same for me the DVD is my go to version for that extra alone and the better edit of the concert. Though it is long overdue a standalone audio release of the 20th October show as well as a non DSOTM set from that tour.
There might be single-disc DVD / Blu-ray releases, and perhaps a 'Deluxe' Blu-ray+DVD set including the live '94 extras from the box set, plus digital releases on video-streaming sites... for reasons others already discussed I don't think they'll include any audio-only discs or remastered audio
I think, when contemplating future The Later Years spinoffs, I was imagining that The Later Years set included Pulse CDs, but of course it didn't. I would be happy with a Pulse BR with any possible extras.
If you want the extras then they will make you pay for a bloated multi-disc box, just like they did for Delicate Sound
I think a future box set will contain unreleased audio. Take It Back for example had long been on the DVD but cut from audio releases. Most of the Division Bell was played somewhere or other that tour especially earlier on. Long held the theory some of this was held back from TLY for a Pulse box.
