  1. I only knew Anthology during the LP era, had no need for the other, though I found it handy as a cd stop gap, before I purchased the individual albums (again) on cd.

I am surprised the the absence of Jackson-Kent Blues and Quicksilver Girl is not keeping many people for voting for Anthology.

The early albums were all out of print and not that easy to find, for me anyway, back in the day. Anthology was what I had. Upon reflection it is not perfect, but it was an awfully useful comp for years.

Are there any tracks you wish were on there that are not included @Rose River Bear ?

I have Best of. If I had Anthology instead, I would feel compelled to pick up The Joker album.

    I don't own either.
If I were to buy one, it would be The Best of 1968-1973 - Steve Miller Band.
    Reasoning: it houses "Quicksilver Girl".

Quicksilver Girl and Brave New World could easily replace Little Girl and Celebration song.

I like both Little Girl and Celebration Song but I am surprised Quicksilver Girl was not included. I also like Jackson-Kent Blues and Rock Love as well.

They really need a 2 cd set with one disc of pre-Joker material and the other with material from the Joker and beyond.

If you have Anthology plus Greatest Hits 1973-1976, you have 2 good solid comps covering 8 years of highlights (at least some of them).

True, but it skips tracks from Children Of The Future and Rock Love.

Anthology is a fine SMB collection and covers most of the highlights for the casual fan. I do think that the early albums are common enough on the used market and there aren't that many of them so why not just buy the early albums? With the exception of Rock Love, I like every Steve Miller album through The Joker.

Most of the early Steve Miller Band albums were engineered by Glynn Johns and sound fantastic. I wish he had recorded The Joker as well because that album doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the earlier albums like Sailor.

Capitol Records has announced a new pact with one of the most successful, acclaimed frontmen and guitarists in rock history. Steve Miller will bring his entire catalogue of recorded music back to the label where he spent a large part of his recording career, starting with the Steve Miller Band's 1968 debut album Children of the Future.

Above photo: (L-R) Irving Azoff, Chairman, CEO, Azoff MSG Entertainment; Janice G. Miller, Sailor Music; Michele Anthony, EVP, Universal Music Group; Steve Miller; Bruce Resnikoff, President, CEO, Universal Music Enterprises; Susan Genco, Co-President, Azoff MSG Entertainment

The new deal gives Capitol/UMe access to Miller's entire private vault and warehouse, featuring not only music but footage, photos, memorabilia, artwork, handwritten notes, journals and more. The recorded catalogue includes his 18 studio albums, boxed sets, live recordings and numerous compilation albums. Among these is the spectacularly successful 1978 retrospective Greatest Hits 1974-1978, which in March 2017 was certified 14 times platinum in the US alone.

The new pact calls for UMe to release Miller's catalogue projects, while new material will be via Capitol. Miller is now directing the concept and curation for his Steve Miller Band catalogue releases, with details of the first project to be announced soon.

Both are too flawed for me because they lack many of my favorite Steve Miller tracks of all time, from Children of the Future and Sailor.

I grew up on SMB in 60s&70s my suggestion is get everything early excluding Rock Love.If you are one of those who loves The Joker(I do not) then buy it.In the end a mere compilation won't do, you will find yourself addicted to one of the San Francisco Eras greatest bands.

I actually like the song Rock Love but they hardly ever include it on any early compilations.
