I bought Dookie not long after it came out. Went back and bought Kerplunk and 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. Then bought the next couple after Dookie. Didnt like American Idiot so stopped there. Having gone back through my collection I appear to only have Dookie and a greatest hits compilation now. Not sure what happened to the others! I did listen to some of the earlier stuff again a few weeks back and it doesnt do it for me at all anymore

I have all Green Day releases minus 'Revolution Radio' and related productions like The Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs.
Dookie is in my collection twice, on CD and vinyl. Playing the vinyl right now, that's why I came across the thread.^^

My fave track from this album is 'Pulling Teeth' besides the radio hits 'Basket Case' and 'When I Come Around'.

    kevin5brown Analog or bust.

When I want to listen to Green Day, I don't, I listen to the Sex Pistols instead.

When Dookie first came out, I was absolutely engaged and loved it with repeated listens!
I have since bought several (many?) of their albums on CD, but also have Dookie and Insomniac on vinyl.
To be honest, though, haven't listened to either vinyl yet!

No one has mentioned it yet, but Foxboro Hot Tubs is on vinyl, and very worth seeking out!
Highly recommended for fans of the Kinks, Byrds, British Invasion, etc.

Question: is the original vinyl of Dookie (Ernie) notably better SQ than currently available repress?

Love American Idiot. Stole Warning from the kid after it was left in his room unattended. Also swiped a Blink 182 while I was at it.

You know you're a die hard Green Day fan if your copy of Dookie has Ernie on the back cover.

very unappealing band to my ears.

billy joe armstrong does not have a very good singing voice at all and their pseudo-punk approach isn't very good either. i never ever understood the popularity....and they are in RNR hall of fame too.......figure that one out.

bottom line: just not very good at all, yet weirdly popular.

The album turns 25 next year (!). Man, I feel old...

I wonder if we'll get any kind of Super Deluxe Edition? Maybe a 2 CD + DVD set? Hmm...

  14. I like Green Day, but I don't own any of their albums. I would pickup "Dookie" if I could find it on cassette at a reasonable price. I have seen used cassettes for $9.99, but that's too much $.

Yes bought it when it came out, Green day were the punk (if you can call it that) of my generation i suppose.
Although i don't listen to them much anymore, i still have a soft spot for their sound, there's nostalgia there for me.
Give me Green day over any recent pop punk band anyday.
Man there's some terrible music in this genre being made, almost as bad as that country pop. Eeeeww

    Happy 25th, Dookie!

(Although I am more of an “Insomniac” fan—I would love if they played that front to back live).

Having all the demos (incl. an early version of 'Haushinka') and their gig from Woodstock '94 in the set would be nice. Actually, I consider a 30th anniversary edition in 2024 instead.^^
Btw, last year the band did rehearsals for an upcoming tour, performing all songs from this album. Maybe a 'Dookie Anniversary Tour' is planned at least?

This and Nirvana's In Utero were albums I'd put on when I was going through severe bouts of teenage angst. :)

Are any of the Green Day LPs AAA? I only have Insomniac and it sounds AAA but one can never be too sure...

I got it on CD from Columbia House back in the day to see what all the hubbub was about. I ended up trading it in at a second hand store.
