"No Quarter" took the path where no winner goes--to the bench.

That brings us to the final pairing. Remember, you are still voting to eject a song, leaving your choice of these two standing.

Discussion question: What would your personal final pairing be?

Thanks to all that played and discussed. Next up: The US REVOLVER.

    3 No Quarter
4 The Song Remains The Same
    5 The Ocean
    6 Dancing Days
    T7 D'yer Mak'er
    T7 The Crunge

    Rain to go.

My final would be Hills and No Quarter. With Hills for the win.

My final would have been The Song Remains The Same and The Rain Song, ending in a tie. :) I'm shocked that Over The Hills made it to the final. I find it to be incredibly mediocre.

I like both and I'm fine with either one winning. My favorite and least favorite HOTH songs were booted in the last two rounds, so I no longer have an incentive to vote.

DQ: Ideal final pairing would have been "TSRTS" and one of these two.

Over The Hills may be more predictably Zep-like, but its chorus is much more supercharged than Rain Song's.

DQ: The Song Remains (for the one notable Page solo on this album) and No Quarter (for the Dogs of Doom). Flip a coin for the winner.

    Rain Song, I guess.

My final would have dancing days over over the hills.

The Rain Song and The Ocean would slosh it out for 3rd place in the Playoff Bowl.

Over the Hills, far away, for a 4th straight round.

My final pairing: Rain Song, unique piece in the Zep repertoire, and Dancing Days. Always love this one. Love the rough mix also.

Still don’t get the love for The Rain Song.

My final would’ve been Hills over probably No Quarter. D’yer Mak’er would’ve been third so it shows how far my thoughts on this album would’ve been from everyone else. Rain Song would’ve been the first to go.

My finalists: Houses Of The Holy and The Rover... wait, they didn't release those on this album, sorry!

So, Over The Hills and Rain Song. Altough I definitely prefer the live version of Rain Song (from TSRTS) to the studio version.

I probably would have had The Crunge beating Dancing Days as my finale. But Rain Song is about tied with D'yer Maker for my third favorite.

I guess I understand the appeal of "The Rain Song". It's beautifully crafted with nice acoustic guitar working in conjunction with the electric guitar. The mellotron and everything else makes for a very chill, relaxed song. It's probably one of the most understated songs in the Zeppelin canon and, obviously, would work well with a symphony behind it. Also, don't forget the song is kind of a nod to George Harrison, so all The Beatleheads on this forum probably love it by default. Think of all the tunes it spawned: Heart's "Mistral Wind" is just one off the top of my head, but there are many others.

I don't understand the love for "D'yer Maker". Even as a dumb kid who gobbled up all rock music on my transistor radio, when they'd play that song I was "uh, this isn't my type of thing". These days when the local rock station plays it during their "Get the Led Out" hour (usually around 9pm central time), if they play it, I immediately turn the station (though I have to say I don't choose to listen to much Zeppelin on the radio unless it's a song that's very much off the beaten path).

I guess most people just take D’yer Mak’er too seriously. I’ve always taken it as more of a parody but I think it flows really well with the album in adding a very diverse track to an already very diverse album.

Dancing Days & The Ocean would be my final pairing -- obviously not in line with popular opinion this time around, although the I definitely agree with the first two voted off.

I voted off "Over The Hills..." this time around

It grew on me over the years; the melody, layers of beautiful instrumentation. I remember driving along the coast in misty rain with a pink glow of a sunset trying to break through the clouds over the ocean horizon and The Rain Song came on the radio. That sealed it.

"Over The Hills And Far Away" would be my overwhelming choice to win. #2 would have been a tough choice, but it is a choice I don't have to make!

Impossible for me to vote now and this would have been my final pairing.
