    In a way, for a few years in the early 90s Soul Asylum were a poor man's version of The Replacements and around the same time The Goo Goo Dolls were a poor man's version of Soul Asylum.

    that's what I thought back in the 60's when the TV show debuted but didn't care. I liked their songs.

  10. To be fair, his albums got much better and moved away from just being an album by John’s son.
    Hardly. I think that, while they had the same core influences, Faces weren’t a poor man’s anything.

    From the dictionary;
    used to refer to someone (such as a performer) who is like another person in some ways but not as talented or successful

    I'd say more of a cross between 1/3 Dwight and 2/3 George Strait. The first record had some good stuff on it.
    He had good taste in guitar players. 1st album had Billy Bremner and Richard Bennett, the 2nd had Bennett, Bill Lloyd and Buddy Miller.
