You're right. He didn't even play on "Are You Gonna Go My Way".
Lenny has many many more influences. It's like a game, you can listen to a song and point out to x or y in rock, pop, soul, funk, even reggae. Love him or hate him, he has a vast musical culture.

The one song that REALLY reminds me the most of Hendrix is "Tunnel Vision" but there aren't many others, really.
(This album has a big Bonhamesque drum sound on many songs).

And vocally he reminds me of...a young Elvis Costello. The nasal thing. Not his fault I guess!

Bob Seger has been around a lot longer than Springsteen.

  4. Saw him play at our local monthly church dance when he was 16 in Montreal. Blew everyone away.

Neil Young thought they were ripping him off so much that he allegedly once snuck out to avoid meeting them.

You can't really play like Hendrix if you don't have chops!

I would say for the first album Lenny was trying to market himself as such.

Really? How so? He was trying to convey a hippie Summer of Love vibe. I equate that with the Beatles and Haight Ashbury far more than I do Hendrix. Again, he's not even a lead guitarist, which is what Jimi is known for.

Kind of thought it was a cross between Lennon and Hendrix on that first album

  15. But he has them. That doesn't mean he's better, but damn he's close.

I grew up in that era, and my older brother got me into a lot of that stuff. For me the original Van Halen is my favorite, Van Hagar has it's moments. Hard to avoid the Poison's and Cinderella's etc., in high school especially hanging out with the hot rocker chicks trying (emphasis on ) to get in their panties ;-)

    I wouldn't say a lot longer. A 2 or 3 years...though I suppose that's the length of a career for some.

Wasn't Seger releasing singles in the early-mid '60s?

Ramblin, Gamblin Man charted in 1968. Sock It To Me Santa was 1966. Seger's first single was 1961, before The Beatles!
