Who actively hates pop punk music? It's not something I reach for often, but if I want my fill all I have to do is reach for my wife's cds she burned in high school to get my fill of Good Charlotte, Sum41, and Blink. It's fun, but usually disposable. Some of the stuff Blink 182 did I actually think is pretty underrated. Iggy Pop featured Sum 41 on his Skull Ring and I thought it was a really catchy, though not very Iggy-like, radio friendly song.

Does And you Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead fall into pop punk? I thought they captured lightning in a bottle back in the early oughts with Source Tags and Codes. Close to a masterpiece and didn't like anything they did before and after nearly as much.

Some funny choices on that list. Never thought of "Inflammable Material" as a "pop punk" album. I think describing the likes of Buzzcocks, the Rezillos and the others in the class of 77 as pop punk is just a way for marketeers to claim some roots for their 90s copycat bands. Why not the Vibrators, while they are at it? Probably because the writers have never heard of them. Oh, and full disclosure: I love Green Day. They are head and shoulders above the others in their cohort, in my opinion.

I've heard of Blink but I put that in my personal genre: "crap music".

In the punk community, pop punk is viewed as kind of a joke, and is ignored and hated.

Nobody in the world ever hated the Buzzcocks. Some people do hate Sum 41, but that's not specifically because they play pop punk.

This is pretty much my take on the subgenre. I'm glad lots of people are able to take something positive from it, but I've played too many shows with bands who are derivative of the Blink 182/Yellowcard/All Time Low kind of pop-punk. Everything about the way those bands sound just feels inauthentic to me personally.

Some pop-punk is repetitive, but if you to take a few minutes to listen to the album Your Gonna Miss it All by Modern Baseball. Its truly different, and quite fantastic.

Did Green Day invent Pop Punk? In my opinion it's a very youthful type of music, when I was a teenager I liked things like Green Day and Offspring, today I can't even get close to that, the songs all look the same to me.

Kinda. I would argue that Op. Ivy created it, but green day definitely popularized it

What's the "punk community?" Those guys sitting around at the food court I avoid when going to the mall?

I don't think subgenres are necessarily stupid, it's just another way of categorizing music with diverse influences or niche appeal. It's certainly possible to combine the raw aggression of punk rock with the song structuring of progressive rock.

The whole Punk was started as a joke. An artificial genre that actually was based on plagiarism.
