Saban's The Adventures Of Pinocchio, Episode 5 "What Is A Heart" (1972)

    Pinocchio: The Series - Wikipedia

Pinocchio: The Series, also known as Saban's The Adventures of Pinocchio and known in Japan as Mock of the Oak Tree is a 52-episode anime series by Tatsunoko Productions first aired on Fuji Television in 1972, which was edited by Saban in 1990. The story is based on the novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi.

Unlike the lighter, more cheerful tones of the Disney film adaptation and Nippon Animation's version Piccolino no Bōken, this series has a distinctly darker, more sadistic theme, and portrays the main character, Pinocchio (Mock), as suffering from constant physical and psychological abuse and freak accidents.

Chinese animated retelling of the classic Chinese fantasy novel, Journey to the West. The last movie made by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio before the entire Chinese animation industry was shuttered by the Cultural Revolution.

Anyone remember Gertie the Dinosaur? Probably not since it was produced I believe in 1916. Certainly a while ago!

I remember Gertie. Had a copy on DVD for many years. It's worth watching as are the other works by McCay.

I do enjoy this thread because there are so many short animated films floating around that are basically unknown. Thanks to PaulKTF for starting this thread and JozefK for keeping it going plus posting so many links.

He has a great version of Faust too.

Check out the Brothers Quay (if you haven't) for more stop animation weirdness.

Marvelous animation! I have the book "Alexeieff" by Giannalberto Bendazzi who also wrote the World History of Animation, a huge 3 volume work about all there is to know about the history of animation around the world. The best literature on animation that I know of.
The French DVD on Alexeieff is wonderful as well.
ALEXANDRE ALEXEÏEFF - Le cinéma épinglé
Another couple besides Claire Parker and Alexandre Alexeieff that looks like it was meant for each other is Yuri Norstein and Francesca Yarbusova. I just love everything they have done so far and I am still looking forward so much for "The Overcoat", a film that both have been working on since the early 1980ies. I hope that they live to finish this film and that I will live to see it. Then I will die a happy man. ;-)

I didn't look through the whole thread so I hope it hasn't been posted before. I like the films of the Iranian animator Noureddin Zarin-Kelk very much:

You have to check out the other short film by Noureddin Zarin-Kelk as well. It is called "Mad, Mad, Mad World" and shows the timeless topicality of all ages - conflict between nations/peoples - in a funny way.

    Krazy's Race of Time (1937)

This is a Krazy Kat cartoon in name only, and bears no resemblance to the legendary comic strip. Instead it's a Charles Mintz/Columbia parody of the popular newsreel series The March of Time
