Is there heat down there? (My unfinished basement is freezing cold in winter.) I see that your Kallax is right on the floor. Any concerns about potential flooding?
Thankfully there is heat. As for flooding, I suppose I’m a little concerned. But it’s a walkout basement, not completely underground. And the side with the music is the part that’s not underground.
That ax-z1010 and the matching sx-911 speakers have been stuck in my memory ever since I heard them at a dealer back in 1989. I couldn't afford them then and you just don’t come across them often these days! Nice!!
Get this Eigenvector...I bought the z1010 2 years ago...NOS!! I couldn't afford an amp like this in 1989 either! Nowhere near afford one! Getting a new one in 2018 was like wining the hi-fi lottery. I'm set for a solid-state amp now. Done.
hear you go! It is birch veneer plywood. It's just built from 2x4's and plywood. I'm not a finish carpenter by any means! it about 11 feet long and 3.5 feet high
I've got another speaker looking object just out of frame. Here's a better view. One of these days I'll have proper placement, but the wife won't let me remove the sectional couch in order to have a more proportional setup.
Hey there it is! Seems like this could sound pretty darn good, very 'asymmetric' WRT walls, etc., so there's no standing waves/modes generated. Probably for best soundstaging/imaging, set up as possible in a triangular arrangement with your listening position ... but I'm sure you set them up for best sound.
Active ATC 100 in the main system and passive ATC 50 in your second system. That's beyond sweet. Either of those speakers are my end-game speakers.
Some recent upgrades, Parasound A21 and P5 to replace my previous A23 and Schiit Saga combo. And a Puffin for my 'not so well recorded' albums. But most important, I finally nailed the position of the middle wooferbox (within 1mm) which is crucial to supporting the side planars and getting a phase coherent sound. It's been a hit and miss for a few months now, but thanks to patience, Jennifer Warnes and her horse, I think I finally reached soundstage-heaven .
I have never seen these. I bet they sound great! I enjoy the SSCS5 quite a bit so I bet this is wonderful.
That turntable on the right looks like a JVC QL-A7. Did you build a new plinth, or re veneer? It looks great. I have one as well and I think it’s a really under appreciated turntable. Been thinking of replacing the black veneer on mine with a wood look like yours. Just wondering if that’s something you did?
Lol! I just use the first 20 seconds of the song, which I put in an endless loop. So it's still 'refreshing' to hear the whole song once in a while .
Thanks! And yes it's a QL-A7, and it's a re veneer. A walnut veneer which has been done by the shop where I bought the table, the guy specializes in vintage decks and is also a wood worker so he does this quite often. More info about the table and photos can be found in the last pages of this thread : Looking for a vintage (japanese) direct drive
