The reason I prefer the mono remaster is that for me it sounds a little more like a Beatles group effort, whereas the stereo version just somehow emphasizes their "apartness" for me - I know, doesn't make any sense.

I have the original CD issue and the 2009 CD issue. It was a coin flip and original won.

I chose the 2009 remaster which, for me, finally makes the album sound like it should.
I preferred the 30th Anniversary over the original, but the rermaster wins hands down.

    I agree.
I must be as "senseless" as you are.

My Canadian copy came in a cardboard longbox containing 2 standard jewel cases (well, the parts that are usually black are white, but...) As with all things Beatles, it seems to have been released in different configurations even in the same market...

Back to the poll, I go for the 2009 Stereo remaster, although the Mono version from the Mono Box comes a close second because it's new to me.

    I own:

original CD (2 jewel case version)
    30th Anniversary CD
    2009 Remeaster
    2009 Mono version
    1970's vinyl (Canadian Capitol)

The only version I have is the German DMM on white vinyl, so I guess it's "(any other vinyl editions)" for me.

Interesting. I had it back in 1989 and it was a fatboy. I wonder if mine wasn't the original CD release then, or as you say, it came in different versions even in the same market?

  14. Far out...I've never seen the longbox version, as I have a 'fatboy' 2-CD case. I like the 1987 CD version because it sounds just like the records I had before some prick stole them at a bash my ******* room-mate had. The records were Canadian Capitols in stereo, with the posters inside the gatefold sleeve. They were ripped-off just before the CDs came out in '87, so I scored the CDs, gave them a listen & they seemed identical to my records, nice & clear & very natural sounding. I've kept the CDs until now, never feeling the need to replace them.

All I have is the 70s UK black vinyl and it sounds great to my ears. I heard it for the first time a few months ago and listened to it constantly for a few weeks straight. I do love this album now.

The 2009 mono version is loaded on my ipod but I need to change that. One reason only, I miss Ringo's "I got blisters on my fingers!" at the end of Helter Skelter. Plus i'm used to the Stereo version, I have it on vinyl and also from the 1987 cd version.

So to answer this poll, my current fave would be vinyl but will now give the 2009 stereo version a good listen.

  20. I've got:
    30th anniversary CD
    2009 Remaster CD
    2009 Mono CD

Of these I prefer the stereo remaster

I listen to The White Album more often than I care to admit. These days I go with the 2009 Stereo remaster.

    I have:

    Original US LP's
    Mid-70's UK LP pressing
    The first CD issue
    2009 Remaster MONO
    2009 Remaster Stereo

I always thought the first CD issue sounded fine. The remaster focused my listening in a few negative ways - Julia sounds jarring when the second guitar comes-in and the bass on Yer Blues and a few other tracks was distracting - but overall I enjoy the clarity and polish.
