I have Leeds, Quad and Who's Next on UK Track - all spectacular

I have the Who's Next Canadian version of the US first pressing (first master tapes) (can't recall - Decca - which is United Artists in Canada)
look at the very detailed thread here - the Canadians are very affordable.

Don't have the Track Tommy as I am not as enamored with the material.
Then again if it's as explosive as the others compared to a regular pressing..

Michael Fremer loves the digital Tommy from a few years ago

I love the Zeppelin, Gabriel, CSN, Genesis, etc Classic but

I can not in any way agree with the following statement

    ymmv

4 people I know have Classic Quads
all of them are astonished when they hear my Track

I would sell my Classic but I in good faith can not mislead anyone

I have a TML Track and a Classic.
I place the Classic behind the US TML cuts.

I have had American, Classic 200G, and UK Track versions of Quadrophenia. I like the UK Track most.

Its from tape, by one of the best mastering engineers, its absolutely up to preference if you dont like it at that point.
    Nostalgia or Nocebo effect maybe?

I wanted a Classic 140g but was affraid I'd get a pop and crackle city pressing. Classic had a bad era around this time. Lotta Zeppelin was effected. Or should I say RTI had the bad era?

The early Classic was clean. The later, 2005 and onwards, especially 200 grams were noisy. I thought they started using their own plant which is why quality dropped. The early pressings from RTI were the good stuff.

The noise (or distortion) on the Classic Records version (LP 2 only) is actually in the mix. It's on every version ever released of the original mix, but isn't as in front due to EQ choices made in the mastering phase. I thought there was something wrong with my pressing until I went back to the first CD release (2 CDs non-fat boy packaging) and was able to hear it there, too. Saying that, I prefer the Classic Records release.

No, there are ticks and clicks that appeared quite distressingly in a period of RTI / Classic Records. It was but one factor in the label’s folding. And it was before they took a crack at pressing their own records.

I think I know how it happened but I’ll keep my suspicions to myself for now.

But I will add that many pressings of this period from them were perfectly clean of any issues.

Yes. I know what you're talking about as I've had Classic LPs that have this issue. I was talking about the inherent distortion on the 2nd LP of Quadrophenia. That is baked in. The ticks and pops aren't, though.

no palcebo effect and neither do the other people I know Who own it

    It's not ticks or clicks
this pressing - at least the one I have from Classic Records sounds like pure mud
worse than a late 70s MCA

    I stand by my experience
I record I received in the early 2000s from Acoustic Sounds
If someone's opinion differs I'd be happy to sell you mine

meanwhile the Track UK 1st is dynamic and sounds like The Who did live

Kevin Gray's (KPG/MCA) sig is in the deadwax on 2 to 3 sides of some of those 1980 blue sky label reissues. Sides 2,3,4.
I haven't seen a signature on any Side 1 or listed in any Discogs listings.

See that needs to be demonstrated before asserted with confidence.

Pure mud? Its muffled and EQd low? That doesnt seem right.

The UK track should be the best and it’s one of my grails. I have original UK presses of AQO, Sell Out, Tommy, WN, By Numbers and Who are You but sadly no Quad yet.

I love the German Track and it sounds lovely and very quiet. The original US brown label Track was a shock as it’s very aggressive and punchy and also I think necessary to own.

I'm listening to this great album as I am typing.
Can someone help me what the matrices mean?

    Side 1: T1 BBB - MCA 360 - 1 / TML
    Side 2: T1 BBB - MCA. 361 -1 / TML 362 -1 (361 -1 is scraped out, like it was a mistake.)
Side 3: T1X BBB - MCA 362-1 TML 363-1 (362-1 IS scraped out, like it was a mistake.)
    Side 4: T1 BBB - MCA 363 - / TML 361 (363 is scraped out, like it was a mistake.)

The reason why I am asking is because I do not see any W5 or W8 etchings. And What does the BBB mean?

Discogs will likely have your variation listed. I can't check now, but I'll take a look when I get home.

Looks like you have this Terre Haute pressing: The Who - Quadrophenia
Even absent the "W" designation, it should still sound quite nice, as all 4 sides were cut by highly esteemed, The Mastering Lab (TML).
