Tell me more! Where did you place it? How did you integrate it (with the first)? Any changes to soundstage? I'm about to try a 2nd in a few months time...
Second sub on the way Used 9Ti to match my existing Check function Tighten driver & amp panel bolts Tighten feet And away I go
Is this crazy? a 1.75" 12" x 12" butcher block on 1" tall isolators set on subs, speakers on them? Sorbothane discs on block tune for 50 Hz +/- 1 octave for additional isolation I'd paint them black. Tweeter at 36.5" Speaker footprint 12.6 x 11,8 I may measure the vibration on the sub tomorrow with an equivilent mass. smaller footprint Higher WAF may have SQ benefit, time alignment/phasing
Since you asked...Some people overthink subs way too much. My stereo REL subs are sited as recommended and sound fantastic. I see no need for novel [non-]solutions. Why don't you go to the REL website and first try their instructions for setting up your T/9s as a stereo pair? They have just a little bit of experience with that. LOL
Engineers can't leave well enough alone. Can't be any worse than hanging 400lbs of records over a turntable and you made that work.
Good engineers leave well enough alone, and are masters of simple solutions. [P.S. I'm a software engineer, and worked for 20 years with mechanical/structural engineers]
Ain't moved a mm or 1 degree But the speakers on sub would be clean Found discs with 80% isolation plus whatever the blocks and there feed dampen X Y
I have physical constrains. One is in the corner, the second will be against the front wall but open on the side. They will likely end up behind the speaker stands, REL Home Subwoofer Placement | REL Acoustics
I will give you bravery points for hanging records like that over your system. I wouldn't go there in a heartbeat. I live in a potential earthquake zone (Cairo fault). I do have a personal articles insurance policy on my system, but I'm not pushing my luck like that.
My subs are somewhat behind my speakers. That works great. If you put them behind the speaker stands that should work too. Then it's about getting them dialed in (phase, xover, gain, position). Personally, I think your idea is somewhat questionable. I think it will introduce unwanted energy into your speaker, and have negative effect on resolution of detail.
Indeed. The added space needed and more wires, etc. has me hesitant to add a second sub. My sub works nicely hidden behind corner trap. I may look into doing the same on the other side.
K That would be my concern, especially with speakers designed to resonate. The wall will fail first, at the point hifi will be the least of my concerns.
I think you want the subs flat on the floor, to energize the room. That's the REL way. And the speakers isolated from the floor. You've seen the front of my room. My speakers are on isoAcoustics Gaia II isolation feet. One of the best low-cost (relatively speaking for me) upgrades I ever did.
The subs would be on the floor, firmly planted by the speaker mass. I'll play with them for a while before making any moves.
I once put a REL sub on a isolation platform, thinking I was solving a problem (the tonearm was the real problem). It was a waste of money and time.
Yeah...subs need to be on floor directly to energize the room. I don't understand the physics of it, but practical experience dictates my choices and advice in that regard. Since I got my S/510 pair not only do I hear it, but now I feel it in a realistic way, like when my wife and I sit in a box at the symphony and the double basses and timpani support the bottom end of a big, bold, large scale orchestra for a Mahler symphony. That's what it's all about for me...when I can have that kind of experience, or at least some of it, at home.
Arrived in good visual shape, not hooked up yet. All bolts were loose and tightened. Cleaned it, Hook up latter, already made the cable. There is a receptacle in the built ins, I notched the door corner to get it in. I must work in phases 10 minutes per hour The other 50 must lie face down. Major suckage.
Online Sounds great Listening to Chambers/Bass on Top I can't do any measurements until tomorrow at the earliest. I lowered gain, it may need increased since each only gets 1/2 the signal now. The left may need a few clicks more since open on one side and the other is in a corner,
If it was me I would try the left one all the way in the left front corner – like you have the right, and start by pointing each to the opposite corner in the back. That's how I have mine, but YMMV.
That is how they are. I can't move the left thru the opening as it is a 2 story entry hall with the front door. The room is 14 x 32, they are aimed pretty much diagonally. My wife is tolerant and easy going, in fact she's 'earned her wings' dealing with me, lol But I ain't pushing my luck, nor would I want to, out thru opening towards front door front door entry hallway from front door
Oh yeah, I see now. I think the way you have it might be pretty good then. FWIW: I have to site my subs to the inside of my speakers. You can see that in my profile info page. Later this year I plan to move my system to the [larger] living room, 14 x 22 x 8.5. Then I will be able to move the subs further to the corners.
