Since you asked, you need everything from the '60 and nothing after Exile On Main Street, except the single "Emotional Rescue".

The early albums are their versions of their primary influences, namely Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Slim Harpo. Even when they covered someone else, IMO it usually sounded like "What if Bo Diddley covered that song, with Slim Harpo guesting on vocals?"

Yes, they probably listened to more Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters, but those were unattainable models, like Elvis. The Stones could put forth decent versions of Berry and Diddley, and Jagger clearly modeled his voice on Harpo.

You seem to favor the 7os+ era - get the more recent collection Honk to gather some tracks post Dirty Work.

alternatively, the CDs released after Dirty work can be found pretty cheap at used record stores and thrifts

It's a decent collection. It covers the essential late '60's/ early '70's years of glory and you have most of the earlier essential hits.
You need The Singles Collection and maybe a comp that covers the more recent period.

Add in Ladies and Gentlemen The Rollng Stones to go along with Ya Yas and you're pretty well covered.

I'd also toss in whatever bootlegs from 70-72 you might come across. Philadelphia 1972 is extraordinary.

I admit there are some OK songs on Some Girls, but my view is that the Stones became a parody of themselves after (actually during) Exile.

gotta have Ya Yas. Maybe I should take my own advice on that. Any SHF suggestions for good Get Yer Ya Yas Out on cd?

Also, Through A Glass Darkly is an interesting hits record, plays like an album.

' Now ' and ' Aftermath ' are essential Stones albums.

I don't know why anyone cares what someone else who they don't know thinks of their record collection, but it's kind of the essence of not just SH Forums but most of the online universe. You have everything from their classic run of Beggar's Banquet to Some Girls and a sampling of their early hits. I figure you must be about ten or fifteen years younger than me. I'd say you have all you need, we all do, but some of those early albums are worth picking up.

As mentioned I have all of their albums in my Apple Music library so I have access to all of the songs that I'm missing on cd. But I'm gonna pay special attention to the ones mentioned here and see if I want to purchase them physically. Appreciate all of the input.

I feel the exact opposite after delving into the recommended discs on this thread. I still love them post Exile and prior to 68 I'm happy with the singles.

    You need:

    Aftermath (UK)
    Between The Buttons (UK)
    Flowers
    Their Satanic Majesties Request
Through The Past Darkly (Big Hits 2)
    Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out
Made In The Shade (This makes a perfectly fine Big Hits 3).

From there on go back and get the early albums. You’ll also want the Singles Collection: London Years, Metamorphosis and Sucking In The Seventies at some point.
