I'm watching this one; the last one I watched went up to $77 or so.

Why in the he** do members keep insisting on posting auctions? Don't we have a rule now against posting eBay auctions? I don't want to be bidding against any more people than necessary, and exposing this auction to forum members -- well,

I agree with you Steve. I asked the Gorts about this a few weeks ago, but they did not seem to support making it a rule. Maybe they are still thinking it over.

Not to my knowledge we don't. Postings about eBay auctions have declined dramatically here since a major bout of belly aching from a frustrated bargain hunter a year or two ago. However I seem to remember that Dave ran a poll on the topic around that time and the democratic view was overwhelmingly in favour of continuing to post information on eBay auctions.

That despite this the practice almost died out has to do with the extreme vehemence of the complaints from a small number of self interested collectors.

At this time we don't have a rule against it.

If you as a Gort are interested in the forum members opinions, I would like to have my opinion known as someone who is all for the posting of auctions of interest. Thank you.

You do remember correctly Mick. :agree: Due to the massive member increase since then perhaps it's time to run another poll on this subject.

i am certainly against it. i saw this auction yesterday morning, and i was just crossing my fingers hoping noone would post it. however, i don't think the seller is an idiot...he knows what this thing is worth.

  18. You weren't the only one Chris. For the 4 years plus that I've been a member here, this CD has eluded me. Now, yet again, someone has posted an auction of such disc. Probably won't be able to afford it.

I thought about doing that this morning.

The problem with disallowing eBay links is that people always ask questions about items on eBay and link them. This is the main problem and why we can't say no to all links. Say someone has a question about an item being legit, for example a black triangle Abbey Road. Just by asking the question he is alerting everyone to the auction. As soon as the experts chime in a say "yes, that's a legit disc" a lot more people at that item to their watch list or set up a snipe.

Obviously forum members would want to promote their own auctions here so is it OK to allow those?

That is the problem, where do you draw the line? Take a look at previous threads in "Everything EBay" providing links to members own auctions. Perhaps other EBayers have been watching these items.

It has to be allow all ebay links or zero.

And I don't thinking allowing no links is the answer. :shake:

Holy Zoo warned people that this would happen if we set up an eBay forum and people still wanted it.

tell me about it:sigh:..I tried to get the Kinks "Ugly Pink" CD...IMPOSSIBLE...forum members here brought it up to $137+?...absolutely disgusting...this CD is forever ruined as far as a bargain on ebay goes.

    Keep it simple...

    BIN = OK

Forum Member's Personal Auctions = OK

Legimate questions about auction = OK

    General Auction Alerts = No

Best thing we can do is try not post eBay links unless we have a reason.

If as a potential buyer you have a question, go ahead.
If you are the seller, go ahead.
