Thomas Z. Shepard (b. 1936) produced a grand number of wonderful Broadway cast albums, starting with 1962's Showboat starring Barbara Cook and John Raitt.

His name can also be found on classical recordings, including a few among his 12 Grammy wins. [Columbia / CBS Masterworks / RCA]

 

Eric Sarafin.

Not sure about the band. There’s speculation out there, but it seems likely that it’s multiple bands, at least two. The last posts were not in the book, were completely different in tone and seem to describe a different band.
