I think it is a very nice upgrade over the felt mat. To me it brought out the naturalness sound of the instruments, especially strings instruments.

Thanks Wasatch. I'm a big Herbie's Audio Lab fan. I guess I'll have to try it soon.

You also have to consider, some of those upgrades void all warranties.

TTPSU first. Should have been standard equipment with all Regas. Then get the Exact 2.

    I have a P5. My vote:

    TT PSU first.

Then the groovetracer subplatter. (oh...and the white belt)

Both of these make similar upgrades. Meaning... quite noticeable...not subtle. I was pretty surprised the white belt actually helped. I got it not caring so much about sonic improvements per se...but it did.

Third.... get the Exact II. The Elys II is a pretty good cartridge.

I experimented with several mats - the stock Rega felt mat (mines black) was never beaten.

One other thing I found made a sonic and significant improvement. And its cheap......place a 2" or more hardwood cutting board under the Rega, then 3 or 4 sorbothane gel pucks under the board to isolate it.

Thank you for this post. Very helpful stuff.

I've done my first "upgrade" on my RP3 today: I placed a Herbie's Audio Lab "Iso-Cup" (frosted, with high-end base and Jasper "ball" if anyone's keeping track ;)) at each of the locations the original bell shaped feet were. Opened up the midrange a bit and it sounds lovely.

I already have the TT PSU, bought with the table. I think my next upgrade in a month or so will be to try Herbie's Audio Lab's "Way Excellent Mat II". . . . It's widely-acclaimed and I've been a Herbie's Audio Lab customer for more than half a decade.

I still prefer the felt mat and recommend the Groovetracer Reference subplatter as your next upgrade.

I preferred the stock felt mat as well in the end - better dynamics. GT Ref subplatter is a great suggestion - better focus. TT PSU will be even more helpful if you lack power conditioning.

Did you both try the Herbie's? I'm in no hurry for a subplatter.

As I said I bought the table with TT PSU and I have PS Audio Power Plant Premier.

I ask because many of the reviews I read of the Herbie's basically say "I tried a few other mats and preferred the felt mat til I tried the Herbie's."

I tried a Herbie's mat on a Rega table and preferred the felt mat as well.

    Great thread

I have a P25 of old; if I wanted to upgrade to TT PSU, I would also need to upgrade motor, correct?

    Thanks Art. That says something.

I like the Iso-Cups as footers a lot. I think I might do as aut0maticdan has done and put it on a maple platform, but not use sorbothane as I don't find that to be "neutral," I'd use Herbie's Grungebuster dots instead.

If you want to continue using the P25 with its current motor, you can purchase the Music Hall Cruise control and also have the ability to fine-tune rotational speed.
    https://audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MHCRU2

The Rega power supply can only be used with their 24V motors so you would have to upgrade the motor. The Rega P/S cannot adjust rotational speed.

I didn't realize the new Cruise Control worked with the 120v AC Rega motors. I wonder if it would work with my P3-2000 motor.

I have a P9 with the counterweight. What else would I need?

It will work on your P3/2000.

Way less static with the Herbie's also.

Whoa! That saves me a lot of money over the motor upgrade/PSU route. Thanks for the info.

I agree with this as well, although I'd think about a Dynavector over the Exact.

I have the P3-2000 also. Might be something to look into.
