So I guess the best definition of “out of print” would be “I can’t order or buy a new copy of it from a commercial music retail outlet”? Would “off catalogue” still be a thing? I wonder how physical stock is actually managed and stored these days. Record companies seem to press up the bare minimum necessary to fulfil the projected initial sales for physical media, then are happy to let records fall out of availability once initial demand is met, rather than keep thousands of copies sat in a warehouse ready to ship to all those high street music stores that no longer exist. Hence the awful scam of Amazon “on-demand” CD-Rs.
