First Foghat album I ever had was Live, loved it. Lonesome Dave lived one town away in the late 70’s and the Boogie Motel was about a mile away. Foghat played the local high school and donated the money to the music department. Rod Price was a great slide player and to me when Dave passed so did Foghat
Lonesome Dave was a great frontman and ambassador for blues based boogie rock. He was an incredibly nice guy as well. I felt privileged to catch the original lineup. And I'll never forget his enthusiasm live. He just thrived on performing and jamming amped up boogie. And as he promised he "rocked till he dropped." RIP Dave.
I saw them in my little hometown in 1994 on the Return of The Boogie Men tour. I've tried to find the date online, but I haven't found any info. It was a bar called Cowboys. They played lots of shows during that tour in MUCH larger places, so I'm guessing this was some kind of pickup gig. There were probably 300 people in the place and it was crammed full. Great show, and it was awesome to see all the original members together. They opened with "Fool For The City". A perfect way to start the show!
They were a fine band. I saw them live a couple of times in the early days and they were fantastic. Dave's vocals were powerful.
I saw Foghat headline in 1976 with opening act Rush and Montrose on second, what amazing concert. This was at the Capital theater in Passaic NJ where I saw many concerts in the 1970’s and early 80’s. Rush was touring for 2112 album. Fool For The City…Rocks.
It was made available on DVD ten years ago: Amazon.com: Foghat & Guests: Blues Tribute: Foghat: Movies & TV
Random story... Pre internet, I used to think Foghat were a fake band.. not once did I ever hear a song of theirs, ever. I used to read Hot Press (an Irish music / arts / politics mag) and there was a satirical column by 'Sam Snort' where he outlined his hedonistic life which somehow involved listening to ................. Foghat.
I saw Foghat on the "Tight Shoes" tour. Really good show. I still have all of the albums you mentioned (except "Tight Shoes"), and they all rock. They put out some other material during this period, too. They are not as good. "Boogie Motel" is one of the worst records in my collection. It kept me from buying any more.
When a band such as Foghat gets included into a TV show about a serial killer(in this case Dexter)you know and should agree they have cultural significance. I always thought, against trend and my friends judgemental opinions, that they were a damn fine band...... Watch Debra get down.....
Found the show i went to here.... https://www.concertarchives.org/bands/foghat November 16, 1980 @ The Spectrum, Philadelphia Pa. I could be mistaken, but I believe this was the last show with Rod Price, before re-uniting later with the Return Of The Boogie Men.
