My hunch is that there is too much money involved and not enough care on the part of the band. I think they are are just waiting for it all to die down and we won't let it.
No. The 2002 cd and 1991 Group Portrait box set contain unique transfers and mastering. If you listen closely, you’ll notice the tape drag at the beginning of Introduction on the 2002 cd. That tape drag is not on the Group Portrait set. However it IS on the old Columbia cd and the Chicago Records cd.
Columbia (Sony) has nothing to do with it. They haven't had the rights to the Chicago catalog since the 90s.
I think Tim Jessup is a novice as far as remixing is concerned. The 50th anniversary CTA sticker label should indicate "Remixed by Tim Jessup in the comfort of his home."
Unreal were stuck with this pile of rubbish. Abbey Road remix reissue just rubs more salt in the wounds that this debacle put us Chicago fans through.
The reviews on Amazon are the worst I've ever seen for an album. They are so bad I may have to download a couple of songs.
I bought two vinyl copies of the Beatles' Abbey Road 50th from the UK for quieter Optimal pressing from Germany. Not to replace the original 1969 UK pressing but the Giles Martin remix sounds good in it's own right. Chicago should learn from Abbey Road on how a 50th anniversary edition release should be treated as a labor of love.
Since this CTA50 debacle I have been gathering up the original CD issue masterings of the Terry years. I'm very happy to say that I've completed this quest today.
And that is a shame. If they still had the rights, the catalog could’ve been properly handled by Bob Irwin and Vic Anesini...the same care as The Byrds’ catalog, for example.
Absolute crime the way all involved treated an historical album like CTA. This CTA 2019 remix will be enshrined as the worst remix of all time. What crap!
Congratulations! Did you get the original Columbia CD's? Next, you should collect the original Columbia vinyl of their classic-era albums from 1969-1977. The Grammy-nominated John Berg artworks look better on vinyl cover.
You can't even hear the original CD masterings anymore on YouTube. Only masterings issued by Rhino are available now.
It seems to me the remaining three original band members themselves don't care about their legacy. They look happy on what they currently do performing their classic hits and album tracks live with their bands consisting of newer faces.
Now I will have: Columbia - II, III, V, VIII IX, X, XI. Chicago Records - VII MFSL - CTA, II, VI I'll pick up a Columbia VI later. And I have the Steven Wilson II and Group Portrait CDs. Don't have a TT right now. But I totally agree that the LP packaging is beautiful. I'm all set now.
I don't understand the remaining three original Chicago members should have been front and center when plans of a 50th Anniversary remix was brought up. I wish Peter and Danny as well as Walter could have been involved with this remix. Maybe they just don't care? What a shame.
If you already have the MFSL and Group Portrait, I’m not sure how much more magic you’re going to hear.
Except he is clearly very uninformed on what mixing and mastering actually are so he isn’t knowledgable to actually discuss and compare mixes
I know. But there's a lot of things like that on YT. Chicago people know what's up without knowing mixing and mastering.
