Time is cruel. I'm still reeling from the loss of one keyboard genius (Mike Pinder), and now my heart sinks seeing this. RIP to the man with the magic fingers.
May Richard Tandy RIP, he just celebrated his 76th birthday on March 26! https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1895067040982349
Jeff Lynne's ELO on X: "It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of my long-time collaborator and dear friend Richard Tandy. He was a remarkable musician & friend and I’ll cherish the lifetime of memories we had together. Sending all my love to Sheila & the Tandy family. Jeff https://t.co/beOF3JR39E" / X (twitter.com)
A prominent feature of the "Daybreaker" arrangement was Richard Tandy playing arpeggios on a Minimoog synthesizer. Electric Light Orchestra - Daybreaker (1973) #87 Pop from On the Third Day PS-It will be 50 years ago this Saturday, May 4th, 1974, that Daybreaker entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #95!
It’s sad to see your heroes go. So many good memories of clutching the album sleeve while listening as a kid and looking at the pics and credits/ liner notes and seeing those familiar names such as Richard Tandy or Mike Pinder and now both gone within days of each other. Thanks for the music Richard.
The videos of Jeff and Richard playing Live From Bungalow Palace are fantastic. Thanks for the music.
Very sad to read this news just now, Richard struck me as one of the core group of the band, and I was delighted he was there at the Wembley Stadium show a few years ago. So richly deserved. His playing seemed very understated, but absolutely a huge part of ELOs heyday. I played Out of the Blue to death back in 1977/78, blue vinyl, cardboard spaceship, poster and all. One of the best periods of my then very early teenage years. RIP Richard, very much missed.
Very sad news to a very underrated musician and ELO's secret weapon. Richard's playing was just right for what ELO needed. RIP Richard and thank you for all the fantastic musical memories I have experienced from when I was very young, with the catalyst being your almost otherworldly keyboards in the most appropriately titled Cat Gey It Out Of My Head.
Sorry to read it. ELO was one of the first bands I checked out as a kid after the Beatles and I remember Tandy's work on the keys standing out.
ELO's soundscapes would've been impossible to achieve without Richard Tandy's talent. He knew just what it took to lift any given song into the heavens. Thank you, kind sir, for a lifetime of strange magic.
Not a surprise but still a sad passing. ELO was one of my favorite bands growing up and remain so to this day. Thanks for the music.
