I saw it and was extremely surprised.

What a loss for the news business.

My favorite memory of Mike Wallace was when he asked Roger Ailes(founder of Fox News) why he was fat! It was quite cheeky of him to do that.....

Remember the Kanamit voices from the classic Twilight Zone episode,To Serve Man? That sounded a heck of a lot like it was Mike Wallace but it was someone named Joesph Ruskin. I had always thought that Wallace had done the voices since he had a working relationship with CBS since the time he worked for the CBS radio network in the 40s(CBS was TV network Twilight Zone was broadcast on) and it sounded almost exactly like him!

Kanamit talks to the UN in To Serve Man:

Wallace was also a game show host not just a distinguished journalist. Here is some of his work from the game show,The Big Surprise:

I first became aware of Mike Wallace through a show called Biography which he used to narrate. It was the precursor to A & E's Biography program.

I've got some live TV broadcasts with Mike doing commercials for something....soap, I think. IIRC, these are from about 1951.

RIP - sad to hear of this.

RIP. In it's heyday 60 minutes was the only show that dug deep and exposed truths that were hidden. And Mike was there....always a gentle interviewer that got to the truth without having to be abrasive.

R.I.P. Mike Wallace was very good. A huge loss, and just a few months after the death of fellow 60 Minutes stalwart Andy Rooney.

Gentle? I don't know his career inside and out but wasn't he a pretty feisty and tenacious newsman? Either way, from what I've seen of him, he seemed like a pretty solid guy who remained vital for as long as possible which is something I highly respect.

Gentle? He invented the 'ambush interview'....he later backed away from that style but gentle isn't something he was known for being.

Not just Mr. Wallace and Mr. Rooney - other ex-60 Minutes stalwarts who have likewise passed on have included (just a partial list) Harry Reasoner, Ed Bradley - and original executive producer (and the show's main creative force) Don Hewitt.

The guy was 93 -- he made it a good long time.

Terrific, tenacious reporter. And he had a great voice, too.
