Comedian Jack Burns, best known for his comedy duos with George Carlin and Avery Schreiber, has passed away at 86
"Girls..They're all over me, I mean all over me, you know what I mean? Huh? ...Huh? ...Huh?" Loved his routines with Schreiber. I even have their LP. RIP Jack.
I may have my facts all mixed up but didn't he get into a live fist fight with Andy Kaufman during a live broadcast of some Saturday Night Live - type show years ago. The show may have been called ' Fridays ' Kaufman completely brought the show to a halt by screwing up a skit and saying it was stupid. I think Michael Richards may have been involved too. It's a very vague memory...
I didn't know until a few years ago that Jack Burns was the voice of "Vince" (one of the 'crash test dummies') that "starred" in PSA's that aired in the United States during the 80's and 90's. "Larry" was voiced by Lorenzo Music (per Wikipedia). "You could learn a lot from a dummy".
R.I.P. The Taxi Cab routine with Schreiber was classic, and a highlight of whatever Sullivan, Williams show it was on. It translated exceptionally well to school the next day. “Turn To Page 368.” “36o what?” “8” “Huh?” “8” “Huh?”
Sad news. I remember when he replaced Barney on the Andy Griffith Show - that didn't work very well, but I still liked him. He did a lot in his career.
Wow, it was either yesterday or maybe Sunday I looked him up on Wiki to see if he was still with us. Too weird. I enjoyed the “yeah”, “huh”?, “yeah”, huh?” bit he used to do. I had forgot about his association with George Carlin. R.I.P.
I've heard rumors he was hated by the rest of the cast, but he later worked with George Lindsay on Hee Haw The Burns-Carlin breakup was also far from amicable, but they also worked together later, at least once -- on the Burns and Schreiber summer show.
Yes, it was a planned stunt Fridays -- where I first hated Michael Richards. His half-wit boy bit stands as one of the unfiunniest "comic" characters of all time.
Remember that classic episode where `Warren' was sleep-walking and chasing Helen Crump all over Mayberry.
Imdb credits him as head writer for the first season of The Muppet Show and co-writing credit(with Jerry Juhl) on The Muppet Movie. Muppet Wiki backs this info. As much as I have so-so feelings for much of his on-air work, this era of the Muppets is possibly the best.
Surprising that all these years later people still don't get what Andy Kaufman was all about. Aside from his death, it was ALL a stunt. Everything. That was the point.
