Shocking and sad. I had no idea he was 70. I tend to think of late 1970's artists as now being in their late 50's. Tom Petty, Eddie Money and Ric Ocasek are gone while so many of the 60's stars who began when they were in their late teens are still with us.

They divorced last year after 28 years of marriage.
I wonder if there is any correlation?

RIP Ric. Most songwriters would have been very happy to write just one of the band’s numerous hits. I think I’ll play ‘Just What I Needed’ in his memory tonight.

How about using a little more thought and discretion before posting on an RIP thread.

I wrote off The Cars pretty early, I despised Just What I Needed

3 months ago I started to really love that track, yesterday I was looking for the self titled at the record store... coincidence but, regardless RIP and I'm getting that record.

EDIT: 2 days ago, either way - I know that track went from turning down the FM to cranking it once I heard that opening riff not that long ago.

RIP, Ric. Thanks for Panorama, one of my all-time faves. And thanks for all the Cars albums -- all of them great. Beatitude and This Side of Paradise are right up there, too.

I'm digging the love shown to Panorama. Always loved the album from day one.

What a remarkable run, the first five albums. All are rather distinct yet unmistakably Cars. Door To Door was a bit clunky but who could blame them after what came before. Still some nice moments on that album.

And Move Like This, who knew they had this in them? Thank goodness they took another swing, bittersweet without Ben but imagine not having it at all?

    A fine songwriter. RIP.
I thought he was in his mid sixties. He never looked very old. A shock to hear this.

He was the same age as Keith Richards and older than Pete Townshend! I'd expect him to be at least 10 years younger than those guys.

Just sayin..just because he was a musician and famous doesnt mean he gets a pass on the grim reaper...he comes for everyone and it is not abnormal for a 75 year old man to die. I was a fan of his music..and didnt know him...so why do I need to be discreet?

These are people, not Gods. There is no sanctity here. I stated a fact to another poster who said 75 was too young. Well it's not. It's the average age a US male passes away. Do I feel bad that he's gone? Yes I do. Do I feel bad for his three wives and six sons? Yes I do. Am I listening to The Cars at this very moment? Yes I am. Not thread crapping. Stating my opinion. And I've restated yours. See how that works? Very well indeed. RIP Ric.

This really saddens me. I’m glad I caught The Cars reunion tour at Roseland Ballroom in NYC a few years ago. Now Ric and Ben are gone. The Cars are truly done. Rock in Peace Ric :(
