Even of it happened some time ago, I count Edgar as the one who paved the way. As he said in the zeitgeist concert: the next time, we'll meet in a more comfortable place. A season has ended, these are just visible phenomena.
Vangelis' discography is like a spire atop an ancient structure that pierces the sky, one that most of us will only ever be able to see from far below, on the street, let alone in a close-up via an aerial photograph...
Between Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner, his music became something I wanted to have in our collection. He influenced so many others like Hans Zimmer. Very sad. RIP
I've recently become obsessed with the Yes track The Revealing Science of God off Tales from Topographic Oceans. When they performed the album live in its entirety in 1974, the intro music before they kicked things off with TRSoG was a Vangelis track called Creation du Monde. One of a few links between Vangelis and the band. R.I.P. Love the video of Jon talking about meeting Vangelis for the first time. Thanks for posting. I remember reading that in addition to his comment about Steve and electric guitar, Vangelis also sat down behind the drums and announced that he could also play them!
"Oceanic" is one of his best - not to mention one of the most beautiful and intriguing CD covers in my collection. "The City" has the one of the best opening songs I know. Farewell Mr. Cairo. RIP.
RIP Vangelis....this is very sad news to read today. A brilliant composer and love all his work and scoring and for so many films! Thank you for all your artistic creative and inspiring musical gifts...another too soon gone... playing and listening now... "Chariots Of Fire" Vangelis ( Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou )
Rest In Peace Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou. I bought every commercially available release and collected everything I could find. Thank you for the years of wonderful music.
Damn, looks like the threes already happened. I'll be listening to Vangelis' Themes later on. Regards, Dave
