RIP Vangelis Papathanasiou. Thank you for all the wonderful music you've given us. You were a pioneer and a true master of your art. Your music will live on forever.
Although I was never really a big fan as such I've always loved Vangelis's collaboration with Stina Nordenstam. RIP Vangelis.
As I read ao many wonderful tributes from the forum for Vangelis, especially so many on how important the theme from "Chariots Of Fire" is to you and believe me, that was a special song for me as well, it got me thinking of one of my most odd 45 purchases. I have tried to remove this one from my head, but yet, there it still is after all these years (I truly would buy almost "anything" by artists that I loved back then!) Melissa Manchester's "Race To The End", with lyrics by Jon Anderson
Good compilation. Did you ever get this? It's worth it just for Disc 2! Vangelis – Blade Runner (Blade Runner Trilogy) (2007, CD) - Discogs
Honestly, rather than think of it as "losing" him...think that this has given you time in your life to catch up on 55 years of work of his you may have missed. And there is a ton. And, we couldn't be in any better place to discuss, and discover, all the other stuff that passed you by the first time. I'm in awe of this board's wealth of expertise at the fringes of every genre of music, and as popular and "mainstream" as Vangelis was...there's a lot we know worth experiencing, most will never come across. Godspeed.
RIP. I'm bummed to hear of Vangelis's passing. He is one of a few keyboard heroes of mine but he was so unique and diverse. Both the Aphrodite's Child material and his own solo stuff are all in my collection. He used his studio and keyboards like a paint brush on canvas. Sonic paintings is what I would call it. No album of his sounds the same but you can always tell it's him when you listen. God bless you Vangelis and have some good times with Demis Roussos.
That's very sad news. He was a titan in the electronic music scene. Hard to imagine Blade Runner with music by anyone else. His catalog is amazing. He will be missed.
Also, not to be missed in terms of Vangelis'one offs, is his wonderful production/arrangements on the Mariangela S/T album
