"Awakenings" was the movie that did it for me. Amazing performance. It's very hard for me to think that a person who has brought laughter to millions around the world committed suicide due to depression.

This has been a tough year....James Garner and now Robin Williams

RIP - I will wear my vest backwards in his honor.

That thought had also occurred to me. His show was cancelled on May 10. His publicist made it sound like he had recently been going through a severe bout of depression...perhaps the show cancellation was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Obviously, it's not a reason for suicide, but it could have been a factor in his downward spiral.

Shocking news... totally unexpected. What a great talent. Never failed to make me smile and laugh. He is missed. Fortunately we will be able to access his archive of comedic genius.

Very, very sad. The guy could actually do anything, I mean he had abilities way beyond comedy. He always reminded me (in a good way) of another genius who I guess had some depression issues, Jonathan Winters. Really sorry to hear this news, he was only 63 years old. He must have been in a bad place.

    Rest In Peace, Robin Williams.

    Robin,

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent, lightning fast wit, and the wonderful view from your window on humanity with us. You will be deeply missed.

With the last year's loss of your mentor, Jonathan Winters, and now you; we have lost two of the most dynamic comedic minds of the modern age!

Thank you for the fun and joy of your memorizing performances! Rest in peace my friend you deserve it.

I heard about this this morning. I'm so amazed it took so long here.

It was a shock when I heard it. He was so young. RIP Robin

It is a shame how sometimes the same genius that makes them so special can also be their enemy.
The world just got a lot less funny. :shake:

I'm wondering that too. Remember that for many actors, moving from the movies back to TV is considered a big step backward. To have his show which was touted as his triumphant return to television end up in cancellation could have been a humiliating experience for him.

I also wonder if he falls under the self-loathing comedian category who finds it hard to find joy in his accomplishments. That might explain his aggressive pursuit of an Oscar award for so many years. You know, looking for that elusive prize he thinks that will finally bring him joy.

I hope he is at peace.

Mork and Mindy was such a huge part of my childhood. This is so sad. He brought so much joy to others but not to himself? Take care Robin :(

If there's a comedian in your life, hug them very tightly tonight. They're all feeling a little vulnerable right now.
