Ironic that I bought the original vinyl in Salina, Kansas in 1992, at The House of Sight and Sound. Really wish I would have bought that second copy.

God help me, even though I already have a needle drop and the CBS CD, and really have no desire to hear this music again, I'm still thinking about buying this.

    Wow - that's a 10 month lead time. Crazy.

Yeah it is a bit of a wait. Based on the Doors Infinite Box, I'll bet we'll be lucky to see it by Christmas. Still, I'm glad AP/QRP is doing this one. Based on recent MoFi purchases, which are good but not great mostly due to RTI's pressings, they are quickly becoming the best reissue label and pressing plant IMO.

    "Very limited"

I don't like the sound of that. :faint:

Isn't that in reference to the original pressing? 'A very limited double LP originally released more than 20 years ago, Amused to Death is reborn on 200-gram double LP...' Sounds to me like they meant that the original was the 'very limited' one - there's no specific reference to the new one being so...

All vinyl for the past 20 years has been limited quantity, relatively speaking. If Guthrie is mastering the SACD, it's to bad he hasn't also done a 5.1 mix. Obviously, that's something he can do. Probably not a cost realistic option. Too bad.

P.S. Sax talked about doing a new cut of Pros and Cons like a year or two ago. I wonder if this is part of that process or if that was unrelated.

Got my preorder in for the SACD. Should be a nice surprise at the end of the year when I forget all about it.

Apparently Fremer's article forced their hand to announce it early...

I'm definitely in for the SACD. Passing on a new gold mastersound when it was in retail was one of the regrets that has tilted me towards getting more rare seeming releases than I might otherwise

Hhm, don't know if I will buy it. The Mastersound which I have sounds fantastic. I don't think there will be a hugh difference.

If it's so limited why advertise so far in advance ? All copies will likely be swallowed up by Acoustic Sounds pre orders. What about international distribution ? Perhaps they are gauging the market and the 'limited' run will reflect this. Rushed to buy 'severely limited' stuff in the past only to see it around for several years.

Fortunately I purchases the original on issue which is pressed on vinyl as near to QRP quality as I have heard. Interesting how much it can be improved apart from vinyl thickness. Hopefully the Q sound is on the tape and will be retained, otherwise it makes this rather less attractive. They may price this one high and use Clarity or UHQR which would inevitably make it limited through affordability.

I thought the mention of "limited release" in the Acoustic Sounds listing was in reference to the original vinyl release and not this release.

Quote from the Acoustic Sounds Amused to death listing:

"A very limited double LP originally released more than 20 years ago, Amused To Death is reborn on 200-gram double LP....."

Ok. I was reading some previous comments. I'm not sure how limited the original was. I think the used price reflects demand and the fact most original buyers are not selling. I'm sure it would have been nearer 5000 than say 1000. It's just I can't see a QRP issue being that much less 'limited'. Audiophile releases would normaly be no more than 5 to 10000 copies.

If it was limited to 1000 or so I don't think I would have stumbled upon a copy by chance in my local HMV. Ironic that given the demise of the company and just proves they may have been better off specialising in their core business.

I know some have a hard time with this album but personally for me it's Waters strongest album, it feels like the one album of his that could have so easily been a Floyd album, it's probably best not to imagine this album with Gilmour, Mason & Wright contributing or at least Gilmour. Although to be fair it's a very fine album without their contributions and Beck's contribution is more than admirable .

I'm not taking any chances with this I've waited over a decade for this to turn up again on vinyl so I'm pre ordering 2 copies to be safe, I don't mind waiting another year if it means this in my collection at last, can't wait to hear this on my turntable.

SACD ordered. Or should I say pre-ordered.
