I wouldn't call you "devil's advocate", you're just being reasonable. Roger has the right to do whatever he pleases and even if he re-creates "The Dark Side Of The Moon" with farts, that won't erase the original album from anyone's record collection. And I'm pretty sure it won't "delete" the original album from record shops and streaming services either.

That said, I'm having fun in this thread. Somebody send me to a mental hospital, please. :uhhuh:

I admit, I'm kind of happy I caught Their Mortal Remains in Montreal in December before this. We all knew there wasn't exactly a HAPPY ending to their story, but having the exhibit culminate with their Live8 performance was really nice. Having this stuff in the air, and seeing the exhibit try to spin a happy ending to their story, would be a little incongruous.

Ugh, I saw the thread headline and hoped it was some sort of Onion article...when I saw him last fall, he played a couple new songs that had some promise and I thought he alluded to a potential new album, though I had my doubts...the idiots around me hated the new stuff (it was pretty mellow, I think just him on the piano), desperately pining for the comfort of familiar tunes.

And I really liked most of Is This The Life We Really Want? so I started to hope we might not actually have to wait another 25 years for some new music...but, no, let's go back 50 years and re-do a classic! Just like he wasted all those years/tours doing Dark Side and The Wall over and over again...sad!

Anyone who saw him last year may remember he opened the show with a "new" version of "Comfortably Numb," in a different key but more importantly, sans guitar solos...I thought it was fine, it made sense in the context of the show, but I can't imagine a whole album of that, especially a re-tread of such a classic. Whatever...

That's a hot take, but I totally agree. It's my favorite solo Waters album by a VERY long shot. Whatever the album lacks in actual compositional depth-- and let's be blunt, there's not a lot under the hood-- it more than makes up for in mood and Waters' trademark, evocative lyrics. Waters' singing strains the limits of my endurance in spots, but i feel like it's the most emotionally open-ended and vulnerable project of his career. All of that makes it a record well worth revisiting.

I will take passive-aggressive over aggressive any day of the week. Passive-aggressiveness can be ignored.

100%. I don't think acoustic instruments have been better recorded. Andy Newmark's drumming is out-stand-ing. The imagination that Rog brings to the subject - wringing every possible variation from his ideas - is mind bending. Plus Clapton is allowed to play challenging crystal clear solos all over the shop on Strat, steel and acoustic guitars.

Dreadful artwork and a concept album at a time when everyone else was going mad for drum machines and synths. But if you can tolerate Rog's occasional in-character wailing, it's one of the best things he ever did.

In a few minutes he captures perfectly the adult experience of all your hopes and dreams turning to dust. And even when he's being optimistic, he can't help but be Roger Waters: "We adopted a fox cub whose mother was somebody's coat" indeed!
