I don't have an SACD player and can't justify getting one. There aren't enough titles released on SACD. I would LOVE it but they're not portable either. The format will never take off either since the whole world went mp3. Sad.

  2. I only know of the next two releases, but these two might change my list.

I am hoping for more releases of earlier albums, mastered like MOR.

Definitely - I only think Vol. 4 should be a mandatory SACD ... it should have been released even before H&H...

Roland, have you heard and compared the Creative Sounds CD for Live At Last to the original Castle? How does it sound?

There are two Creative Sounds CDs: 6001 and 6001-2, but in this case, they are the same. :)

The two CS discs are very similar to the original Castle, except that they have about a 7dB roll off from about 40 Hz down to 20 Hz, and there's about a 1.5dB depression centered at about 350 Hz going about 150 Hz in either direction. A little very high freq roll off too. Very similar sounding.

Thanks Kevin! You've really analyzed them all, haven't you? :D

Not all, but sometimes I get really hyper about tracking down all the different masterings of a particular CD. :)

I understand, I have done the same, although it is more by chance if I stumble accross several different versions in a short period of time.

    Question.
Vol 4. is my favorite Sabbath album.
I bought the mini LP CD from Japan - POCE-1100 (2007). the cover looks great, but the sound is Flat ! (why do they do that ? don't they listen to the CD before publishing it?).

So i search my old cd library and found the CD I bought as teenager called : "Children of the Grave", (Dorchester Holding - Creative Sound) the CD number is (6011) and there is a picture of a spooky doll on a grave... not the Vol.4 art cover: overall pretty ******...
but it sound much better to my ears. its not flat !

anyone known anything about this issue ?

Souled i get the new 2009 remaster ? i read here that it is good, but i hate loud Cd's that i cant crank up. would love to read your good advises ! thanks.

I have the We Sold Our Souls For Rock & Roll set by creative Sounds/Dorchester Holdings and it sounds as you described. ie: Unfutzed with. It also has a different cover than the Warner Bros. release.

It's your money, but I'm happy with mostly 80's CDs in my collection due to this overly loud/flat sounding enigma you describe.

Roland likes the 2009 remaster of Vol. 4 but I disagree. It's not awful, but the first Cadtle pressing is still my favorite.

I find the Castle a little flat in comparsion (sometimes even thin)... I find the 2009 more lively. Supernaut really shines on that one.

  15. I like both, the 1986 Castle and the 2009 remaster. The Castle sounds a little more laid back, but the 2009 remaster brings out some things which seem to be buried in the Castle, and the new remaster is quite clearly from better tapes.

I am hoping for a great SHM-SACD similar to "Master of Reality".

Nothing done to the original transfer that will make it sound bad such as adding compression with an illusion/delusion of making it louder/clearer/better.

    oh, I see thank you.

I feel most of the classic and progressive rock albums from the 70's are much more enjoyable to listen to, then the latter remasters. you cant crank the volume up on these remasters !

Can someone point me to where the different versions of the Creative Sounds s/t CD are explained and how to differentiate them? I have one and want to determine which it is.

For the s/t, there is the 6006 and 6006-2, and they are identical.

None of the others are very good compared to other discs out there IMO.

Okay, thanks. I've got the 6006-2 and it has the known problem of no PE flag set. I had never heard there were multiple versions and I thought a post at the beginning of this thread made me think there were multiple ones or multiple masterings.

:agree: I love most of those 80's CD's with some DCC, MFSL and AF exceptions. The older, the better for sound quality... usually. :)

Sometimes I wonder who's to blame? The junk stereo systems being made today as opposed to the big hi-fi sound systems from the 70s and 80s?

Kevin, is the WG BA the same as the 1st JPN?

But just recently I saw someone selling this disc in the classifieds, and emphasizing that they were selling the 6006, the "good one", not one with a -2 at the end. So what is that about?
