They didn't use peak limiters back in 1983 - 85 so that's a non point and they're definitely not upon closer inspection with quite a few extensions near 95% and nothing over.

Can you do me favor and post images of Still Loving You. Let's see how something a little more mellow looks.

I have a 2 CD set in the Japan Supermasters series, is that the same one you are talking about? It has the complete album on 2 discs.

Those US RCA Fly and Trance discs are impossible to find.

Amazon has In Trance and VK, I believe. I bought mine in 93 or so.

Using links to image host to avoid choking up this thread with large pics:

    Harvest - http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/3756/scorpharvest2.jpg
    WG Mercury - http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/8961/scorpwg2.jpg

Dave, from your recommendations over the years I know the type of sound you prefer, for this album the Harvest (leaving out the RCA due to cost) will be it. It is smoother, more coherent/focused, more lifelike, higher ceiling, etc than the WG. It is no small difference. BTW Nothing wrong with the WG Atomic (US should be the same) and it's more raw sound either, that disc has served me well for nearly 2 decades.

Any chance of getting a sample from the Harvest? I've been living with an original US for the past year or so and would like a chance to compare before plopping down $40.

If you mean LAFS, keep yours, but get the EMI Blackout.

I have it and like it quite a lot! There are some drop-outs, however, that I'm not such a fan of. May try EQ'ing the remaster and seeing what I can do with it...

  9. I now have the Harvest Love At First Sting, found for $20 - Wow a great sounding disc!!! 100% killer at high volumes. Thanks to all who recommended this disc. I also have the "original" US disc, this Harvest disc sounds loads better.

Great to get actually get something that was as advertised or better, welcomed change of pace after the crap mini-lp's, shm's, identical sounding 1st Japan pressings with same masterings as cheap US discs, that those with agenda's "suckered" me into when I first joined.

If by "loads better" you mean brighter, then it may sound good to you. Whatever works for you, but I would compare the EMI to the US remaster in brightness. I compared all three yesterday. I will keep my US original for LAFS. Blackout is another matter.

For some people, that is better. Glad to see I'm the only one that doesn't think so...

  12. I compared the original US to the original made in japan Harvest. To me the Harvest seemed cleaner and less bright. Until your post I never read that it was bright or I might not have purchased, glad I didn't then as it's a great disc.

That's cool, but the drums to me are brighter and crash more.

While I like the original Mercury it's muffled with a narrower focus in comparison to the Harvest. Perhaps the drums are a little brighter sound due to the more openness of the mastering? You can't go wrong with either disc, but if you a fan of this album you owe it to yourself to get the Harvest and compare. Myself I was surprised by how it is. As I've stated b4 as good as it is, it's not even my favorite :)

For World Wide Live, what are the advantages of the EMI-Harvest over the WG for US, which is the only one I've ever heard.

I just got the second Jpn pressing of In Trance. It sounds better than my US RCA, but it could still be better. I don't think it was done that well to begin with. Oh well. I am stepping up in quality.

That is hard to find. I don't like the US RCA CD.

    Hi

    I have just received:

    Scorpions - Virgin Killer - RCA ND70031
    Grey Fan made in Germany

    from Ebay.
A quick question for anyone else who has this version... "what is contained in the booklet?"

    Mine is a 4 page booklet :
    Front Cover/blank/blank/Track listing

Looks official enough but just wondering if I have some pages missing - such as the lyrics - looks like there originally was some staples in the booklet.

Hmmmmm - looks like the booklet isn't EX after all :-(

Will be playing it later today - along with my Sabbath (H&H,MR) Deluxe Editions... nice !!!!

I've actually had the German "Virgin Killer" all along. Just now noticed this!

Always loved the way it sounded! My "new" (from eBay) copy of Fly to the Rainbow now sounds almost as good!

I haven't been able to find any of these pressings online anywhere. I look faithfully.

I even posted a WTB and not one reply.

Is the Made in UK, LC 1305, Breeze Music/EMI the cd to get for Blackout ?

I think my early USA copy is bright and lacking bass.

This one and LAFS are a must have in my collection but the sound on them are pretty disappointing. Going from memory LAFS is not the worst of the two.

    Your booklet is complete.

The staple holes are from a version in a "nice price" (or similar) series, and these did have a "wrap-around" cover which most people took off.

Rick, the Atomic pressing is not what I am recommending or have. I'm not even sure an Atomic even exists for LAFS. I am only speaking of the W. Germany 1st pressing red-faced Polydor. It has detail and definition galore with a realism that has to be heard to be believed while remaining relaxed with a wide open sound stage. Truly great sounding.

Until I can hear the 1st pressing RCA and you can hear the 1st pressing red-faced Polydor we can't agree. :D Watch them sound the same.
