I bought the MONO box last fall and immediately loved it. But in the past few weeks I’ve been coming to grips with the first three Decca >>> first five London albums. Minor quibbles aside (see other threads) it’s wonderful having consistently-mastered mono mixes of the Stones’ 1963-65 era. The group’s evolution makes so much more sense in more-or-less chronological order. I’m pretty anal about track listings and such, but until I focused on it, I didn’t realize that 12x5 only shared three songs with RS No. 2… the duped cover photo had confused me.

I finally did some playlists and CDRs honoring the three UK albums, supplemented with the singles, EP’s and US-only album tracks.

Thanks. I should try inserting that... it never sounded right to my ears on Flowers.

There are recording date anomalies when the release dates are followed. Look What You've Done was recorded at Chess in Chicago in the summer of '64, but not released until the end of '65 on December's Children.

Great idea. I am very lucky and have the mono box and also purchased a hi res download of the box. I grew up in the UK and only became aware of the USA albums in the 1970s when I started to buy all the Stones 60s albums. I knew the UK singles and EPs and still regard the Stones Decca catalogue as the definitive one. The USA albums are very interesting and I got to know them when they tended to be favoured for cd reissue. Good to have them all (well nearly) in one box.

I've never favored the Stones' UK LP's the way I did with the Beatles. The first three American albums are all solid. Out Of Our Heads and [especially] December's Children are cobbled-together; they were assembled as vehicles for the hit singles.

As great as Aftermath is, the UK pressings that I had all suffered from groove-cramming; it was a long album and sounded thin. That was the initial revelation on the MONO box... I finally enjoy Goin' Home.

It is along time since I played my old UK Aftermath vinyl but you are absolutely correct to say it is long. I have always wondered why the didn't edit Goin' Home but glad they did not.
I have a great Dutch or French Goin' Home single with a 1972 photo of the Stones in concert. A-side is part 1 and b- side part 2.

I like the idea of the chronology albums/playlists. I've had UK & US Stones albums since the early 70s and they still mess with my head trying keep straight which tracks are on which albums(I'm talking the early-to-mid Decca stuff.)

    Hope this isn't much off-topic.
A while ago I created one extra album about their 1963 material, called Come On!... with Fortune Teller and 12 other songs.
Characteristically based on the debut album by another certain UK band.

    Side 1
    1. Road Runner
    2. Diddly Daddy
    3. Baby What's Wrong
    4. Bright Light Big City
    5. Fortune Teller
    6. Poison Ivy
    7. Come On!
    Side 2
    1. Bye Bye Johnny
    2. Money
    3. You Better Move On
    4. I Wanna Be Your Man
    5. Stoned
    6. Go Home Girl
    7. I Want To Be Loved

Contains some of their IBC demos, the Rolling Stones EP and their early singles.
In this record 'Poison Ivy' is the early version (not from the EP), originally planned as a Decca single b/w 'Fortune Teller' but scrapped bit later, instead 'I Wanna Be Your Man'/'Stoned' came out.
'I Want To be Loved' is the version taken from the 'Come On' single, there's also an IBC version of it but I wanted to put in their first singles completely here.

I know. I still can't keep the different/shared releases straight in my head when I look at the song titles on the albums.

I referenced these two sites in putting those playlists together:

It's interesting that there were tracks released in the UK and others in the US that did not make their way across the pond.

I don't consider either the early UK or US Stones albums to be definitive, but there are certainly more tracks with the US albums.

This sounds really good of-a-piece. You came up with a great sequence. It's really nice having a Stones "album" before the debut. I wasn't sure that I had all five "rare" tracks, but they're on the Black Box Rebels Arrive disc.

    Thanks.

I did something similar and I enjoy doing these types of projects.

I also created a Deluxe version of Aftermath with all of the tracks from both the U.S. and U.K. versions along with the single b-sides and extra tracks.
