This movie appears to be out of print. As the Monty Python films seem to have stayed available, this one is an exception. Any reasonable explanation why??
That's a shame really. Luckily though the Blind Lemon Pie documentary is still available as are a number of his albums.
Hopefully this will mean a new label will release it, at the correct aspect ratio. IIRC the picture is zoomed in so as to ‘fill’ a widescreen TV image.
I heard "grievances" but that was quite awhile ago now... some kind of enmity did exist between Idle and Innes, no idea if it goes on beyond the grave for Neil. Gotta have the Rutland Weekend eps as well, essential stuff!
I believe Lorne Micheals owns it....I recall seeing the Broadway Video logo, but it's been a long time since I've watched it..
yeah it's out of print again... Rhino released the DVD edition I own, and it was re-issued by Broadway video Remaster on Blu-Ray/DVD package in 2013 in a set as 'The Rutles Anthology', so search for that title now...though it may be only bought as second hand copies. It's crazy how things like this become unavailable, while titles featuring monster trucks or backyard wrestling are legion. Marketing is a bizarre thing indeed.
This is correct. That's why the SNL cast had roles in it. It was directed by Gary Weis, who made the short films [that weren't by Tom Schiller or Albert Brooks] for the classic cast era of SNL.

Back in 2014 (if I recall correctly), Neil had to sue Eric for the royalties for Spamalot. Granted that was some time ago. Considering that Neil went broke due to Eric’s pettiness back in 2001 and the follow up lawsuit, I sincerely doubt that they ever mended fences. Eric remains an egotist who wanted sole credit for all things Rutles seeing and portraying Neil as just some guy who wrote songs. It’s sad because Eric was a talented comedian and occasional songwriter himself. His ego drove him to attack and diminish the work that Neil did. ‘You’ve probably seen this but The Rutles story is just as nasty as The Beatles story except thst they actually forgave each other and also acknowledged the talent of each other. http://web.archive.org/web/20010531153921/http://home.earthlink.net/~wyuen/rutlesstory. htm Monty Python stars face costly new legal action over Spamalot royalties | Daily Mail Online
Some days I like Get Up And Go better than Get Back. I love All You Need Is Cash. I love that they filmed at the West Malling Air Field location, even though they didn't quite find the exact same blast walls that the Beatles used for IATW.
I always loved George Harrison's cameo. I didn't recognize him the first time I watched it. I love Paul, but I could never imagine him agreeing to do something like that in a project like this.
