    Ok, this could get interesting!

Exact same song title (and intent for the purposes of this forum), but by different bands. Which do you prefer and why? There is no wrong nor right choice here, but interesting to share opinions.

*SPOILER* I usually enjoy both versions equally depending on mood.

    Starters;

    Jailbreak
    Thin Lizzy
    AC/DC

    What to say here?
IMO the AC/DC version is more brutal (and "rockier" lol) in aural intent vs. Thin Lizzy's version that I consider just as listenable but more flippant or acceptable to the norms of Thin Lizzy's era.

    Crimson and Clover
    Tommy James and the Shondells
    Joan Jett

The classic original is a fun crooner (song to sing). Whereas J.J's version is both a tribute and to some an improvement on the original. To me... see SPOILER above lol

Now a tough one, I leave you with the many, many versions almost all of them outstanding in some way.
Mustang Sally! Ride, Sally, Ride !

    Van Halen

(I know there are MANY others, but I can only handle 3 right now.)

Well, they're all classics for somebody. It's all down to personal taste, of course. Three extremely different rock styles.

I'll give the edge to the first two, but I like them all. Wouldn't think of playing the Van Halen song myself, but if it came on the radio, I wouldn't change the station.

The FM song is track 2 of one of the most popular pop/rock albums ever released, and some may say it's overplayed (just like the album,) especially last month when some dude jumped on his skateboard and created a viral TikTok video. But the song's enduring popularity is attributable not only to Stevie Nicks--who wrote and sang the song--but Lindsay Buckingham, who contributed so much to the production and arrangement. It's one of those tracks that feels like a first take, even though it was labored over intensely--much like the rest of the album, which retains a freshness and immediacy to this day. I was shocked upon learning that the LP took a year to complete, through a multitude of difficulties and bouncing between different studios--how they pulled off that sense of spontaneity and emotional rawness in the final product still boggles my mind.

The Allman Bros. track is just another reason why they were always my favorite "jam band." It was never just noodling... there was always a structure to everything they did, especially during the Duane years. "Dreams" provides an excellent showcase for their talents.

I like them all to a greater or lesser extent, though America's may be a rung or two down the latter.

The Kinks one is a particularly great example of their early "crunchy" period.

same title but different Solitaire songs. Both good, but I prefer the French song. Although I think Carpenters song might have actually influenced Martine Clemenceau composition

    The Carpenters (Solitaire)
Martine Clemenceau/Laura Branigan (Solitaire)..... I prefer this one

A pretty good song for late-era, outside-songwriter, sellout Aerosmith, but the Floyd song clearly wins this battle to me.

Never thought about it, but seeing this list containing some of my very favorite bands or at least artists I tend to enjoy a lot....this title is a dud! I have no strong love for ANY song of that title...

Don't know Segars but have strong pref for Plant of the ones I know, one of his most affecting melodies and arrangements.....the Dead is for some reason in the very bottom run of Hunter/Garcia songs for me, might possibly be my LEAST favorite, tho I'm not consulting a list...

    "Big Time"

    Peter Gabriel -So 1986
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Broken Arrow 1996

This is a very tough choice or me...I love the Gabriel song, it was a pretty big hit back in the day. But Neil's song is so damn good (and is certainly his answer to someone else's post today about what marked the end of the hippie dream...as Neil sings in the chorus, "I'm still living the dream we had...for me, it's not over.")

Still, I think I have to go with Gabriel here, by an eyelash.

It's not fair because I am just naturally a Neil man over a Gab. man, but I just like any attention brought to Neil's very excellent tune, which I think should have become more of a canonical "play every tour" type thing for Neil, truly great.
