  1. So was it pretty good, in an inadvertently experimental sort of way?

I thought Maggie Rogers was pretty good, especially on the second number. The first one maybe started a bit flat, but I'd never heard the song before, and didn't know what it was supposed to sound like. But I think she nailed the second number.

I was kind of half watching last night, but I thought Pete Davidson's apology and having Dan Crenshaw next to him was done well. Admit you effed up, have the balls to sit next to the guy you made fun of, and give that guy a chance to give something back.

Was the Pete Davidson sketch from last week even a controversy? I agree the segment last night was fine, but it seemed unnecessary. Lame joke about the guy last week. But our leaders say worse things without trying to make jokes...

You’d think a guy who lost his dad in 9/11 would have a little more sensitivity than to make fun of the guys eyepatch when he lost it while serving in the Middle East. Not the worst or meanest joke in the world but thought last night was a nice way to even it out.

  7. Liev’s opening monologue delivery was terrible - lots of flubbed lines. But he was amusing in the skits.

I laughed quite a bit last night. The Poddys awards ceremony killed me.

Liev sounded like he had a cold.

I thought he bungled a bunch of lines in the sketches as well—the last one about the tv show outside a women’s bathroom was a mess.

It’s always weird when a cast member seems to vanish for weeks and then all of the sudden is in practically everything. Cecily Strong was in almost every skit!

Davidson's joke last week was self deprecating as usual. Basically it was on him. Trying desperately not to get political here but the whole "controversy" was fabricated BS by a relative smattering of obnoxious trolls aiming for political points IMHO. Crenshaw's appearance this week was classy and hopefully puts an end to it, until the next BS made up controversy arrives.

Back on topic, pretty strong episode start to finish. Sometimes a host who is completely unqualified for hosting can be used quite cleverly. Watching Liev try to survive the paranormal bit, and how he earnestly sprayed the rambunctious boys with a watering hose were two hilarious highlights.

I laughed often and loud at the PODDYs awards and the House Hunters bits. The "Permission" rap video was excellent, and a strong Weekend Update as well.

Really good episode that had a solid mix of current events and weird non-political sketches. Best of the season so far IMHO.

I liked both of these sketches and the rap parody because to get the jokes you had to recognize the cliches and tropes of these things- didn't go for safe or easy laughs--

No comments on the Steve Carrell episode?

My favorite bits were "Space Station Broadcast" a "50's Sleepover" and I loved Mikey Day as the congressman into bigfoot porn. Keenan doing Lavar Ball is always funny too.

  14. Crap! My guide didn't list the host or guest so I assumed that it was a rerun.

Those were pretty much the highlights of an overall disappointing episode IMHO. There were some cringingly bad moments as well. Even WU was barely ho hum. It was a real letdown after such a great episode the previous week, and considering Carrell’s talent.

That (the cut for time sketch) was great. I swear, at least half of those Kyle/Beck sit-com spoof bits get cut. No respect. I think they're hilarious.

I think they should show all the recent cut for time sketches in a compilation show one weekend instead of a repeat.

Last week’s was kinda meh. Honestly don’t know why they get so much press for the Baldwin/Trump sketches. Those are almost always unsatisfying. I did like the Netflix and Dad Christmas bits.

Judging by the lack of discussion on the last couple episodes it seems like SNL isn’t even worth complaining about anymore!

I've had this show record to DVR for as long as there have been DVR's. After last weeks show I pulled it from my record list. An hour and a half to maybe catch one amusing/funny sketch is no longer worth the time for me … imo it's become a drag.

Sadly, I've done the same thing. I'm in my mid 50's and been watching ever since the 70's. I stopped DVR'ing this season because it had become a drag to try and make it through the episodes. I like a couple of the cast members but just can't get into it anymore. Maybe it's an age thing? And no, I don't long for the old days :) I'm glad there are people still enjoying SNL but I've bailed.

That's the reason to keep recording it...you can skip thru the stuff you don't like, as opposed to sitting thru 90 minutes live.

You have to watch it first to find out if it's going to be funny or not. When you watch sketch after non funny sketch it becomes a waste of time. I like the cast, just not the material. Below is a sketch I found funny as hell; sketches like these have become rare, about once a season, imo:

I agree, you have to watch to know what is funny. But if you like the Close Encounters sketch, its a recurring bit they do very often. Not sure how many there have been so far, but I'd guess the most recent is the 5th or so? Seems to happen every few episodes.

Thanks for the tip, but I've seen them all; and none as funny as the first one. See for the past decade or so I haven't missed an episode, looked forward to watching it. It's lost it's magic for me, too much time now spent on bashing. The bashing started out funny, but has gotten old and worn … to the detriment of the other material.
