The appeal of SBTB to me was (and probably still is) the chemistry between the cast as well as the cheesiness and I don't mean that in a bad way. The story lines were crazy and the low production values with just a few sets added to the bizarreness of the show. The show was absurd but the viewers were in on the joke. Ironically it replaced Saturday morning cartoons while often acting like a live-action cartoon.

Thus far, the new show looks too polished and has a completely different atmosphere. To me, it doesn't come across as SBTB. The fact that many of the "high school students" don't look much like high school students anymore doesn't help either.

 

I'll still give this a try though.

I guess with the popularity of “Cobra Kai” rehashing the teen angst and tomfoolery of the 80’s and 90’s is in full swing. Some of it is good (CK) and some (appears to be) is bad. Honestly, this reboot just looks unnecessary.

Funny that Elizabeth Berkley tried so hard to get away from her image on SBTB that she did “Showgirls”, but ultimately winds up on this. Lopez will doing anything apparently.

 

I was going to say, "television is justthisclose to re-booting a series while it's still airing"...and then, I thought about The Walking Dead, NCIS, Law & Order and CSI.

 

Jessie and Slater were my two least favorite characters on the original show. Passing on this lol.

 

No Screech, No Sale!

 

Probably the 'Full House'/ 'Fuller House' reboot inspired this.

 

Dustin Diamond "authored" a nasty tell-all book about the original series. I also vaguely recall that a few years ago he got into a confrontation in a bar and was arrested for carrying a switchblade (and some other charge) and served some time in prison. I doubt if he would be welcomed back.

 

It was a joke. He also went to jail for stabbing someone...I would think that would disqualify him.

 

I presumed so, but you never know with these Screech fanboy devotees.

I'm guessing that Diamond (not a good actor to begin with) was stereotyped as far as casting went and had trouble getting work after the series (and sequels acting in the same role) ended. He turned out to be pretty much an a__hole.

This reboot seems like a Brady Bunch Movie-esque self-aware parody of itself. We’ll see whether or not it works, but I think the footage we’ve seen so far in the trailers is solid.

Totally agree. The original show worked because it was just the right cast at just the right time, but the cast is older and the moment has long passed.

A longtime friend owned a comedy club for a few years in town and said Diamond was always friendly and funny (he appeared there maybe a handful of times), but my friend has/had the tendency to get starstruck, so I was never sure how accurate his opinions were on the celebs, even 9th tier ones like Diamond. LOL

 

I’d like to see Lisa return as well.
