You dawg George! I've been after this one forever. Fortunately both of those tracks are available on other DCC Aluminums. ;)

Congrats and enjoy George! :)

Are you sure it's the DCC version? Remember that there has been a lot of confusion ever since eBay started using the muze system. It seems that sellers don't pay attention to the version that comes up from muze.

Note that if you get the EMI version instead of the DCC version, you probably won't get the good sound, but you will have a collectible. The EMI version sells for decent coin since it's long out of print.

    Two.................dollars..................???

    OUCH!!

    Darn it.

One of my upcoming CD projects is to do a needle drop of the first two Stray Cats albums, which made up this CD. (Except for the title track, which I don't think I have on vinyl anymore.)

I certainly don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but I do have a somewhat dissenting opinion about this disc...

I have one of the DCC discs, and it may well be that I'll have to listen to it again, but last year, after I finally located a copy of this disc and slapped it on the CD player, I really wasn't particularly knocked out by it. The guitars especially seemed to lack to the "bite" that Steve's mastering usually has, and although the disc overall was **OK**, it just didn't really resonate with me.

I recall posting a message about it on the Forum (it's probably somewhere in the Archives), and as it turned out, Steve actually asked if I was certain his name was on it, because he evidently didn't even remember mastering the disc!!

So I've always wondered it this CD had a history similar to the DCC "Bewitching-Lee" project...

If Steve did master it, it could be that the master tapes weren't all that good to begin with. The seller (or Muze?) mentions Steve's name, as shown in the item's description. Could it have been a mis-credit if he didn't indeed work on it?

I've got the CD and it sounds pretty good to me. Steve's name is in big bold letters right on the CD!

IIRC, Built For Speed was never considered a sonic masterpiece to begin with. That's why I'd like to see Steve master another unsonic masterpiece, Sly and the Family Stone's There's A Riot Goin' On. :D

IMO, Built For Speed is probably the worst Hoffman CD I've ever heard. The corresponding tracks off my Japan mini-LP remaster are far superior.

It wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that this isn't Steve's work after all.

Just curious, how do the similar tracks compare against the "Struttin' Live" that Steve did?

Good advice, Keith. I wasn't aware of this problem until recently, when I bought the first Van Halen album "gold" that turned out to be a cruddy BMG version. The seller, a real "class" act, refused any refund.:(

If I had the CD versions of these, I'd like to compare them to the original UK vinyl that most of this album was sourced from. To my ears these two LPs sounded a little "softer" than the EMI LP that I had. First UK album was Stray Cats, and the second was Gonna Ball.

Slightly O/T, but Rant 'n' Rave With The Stray Cats was a real ear-bleeder of an LP, and it had NO BASS to it. :sigh:

I don't have that one...my comparisons were with the Japan S/T and Gonna Ball. Also, IIRC, even some of the tracks from the Curb comp sounded better than the DCC.

I'd like to hear Struttin' Live, but I don't know what I would compare it with, since I don't think there is any other CD version except the DCC.

Hmm, guess I was looking for a comparison between the similar tracks on the two to see if there was any consistancy to the sound between the two.

This has happened to me twice So far I have had no problem getting a refund. Steve-oh, you should have gone to eBay and reported the auction. The seller mis-represented the item, that's fraud.

It sounds awesome! Steve has done it once again. " Stray Cat Strut" gave me those "chills" that run up your spine when you hear music of that quality. I haven't compared it to the vinyl yet, but I'm sure the cd has nothing to worry about.

I love the bass on Stray Cat Strut. Sounds like we are in the minority, but I really like this disc.
