Oh come on. Paper Tiger is the only song that sounds (exactly) like Gainsbourg on Sea Change.

    Sea Change.
Morning Phase is a snoozefest, I was so dissapointed when I heard that. Lovely production and all, but damn, those songs are boring.

Sea Change, for the raw emotional delivery and the depth of the songs. Morning Phase is more removed but has grown on me a lot. I thought it was only ok when it was released. Love it now.

There’s definitely something to that (Paper Tiger anyway). Love them both though.

    Both are great.

Morning Phase edges SC for me though... Lost Cause is my favorite Beck song though

I haven't listened to Sea Change yet, but I love Morning Phase.

  11. Sea Change is a classic album. Morning Phase is Beck's attempt to match Sea Change.

Spinning the Bernie Grundman mastered vinyl of Morning Phase this AM.

    Truly gorgeous.

"Turn Away" is probably one of the best Simon and Garfunkel songs I have heard :)

I got into Sea Change a couple of weeks ago and Morning Phase a couple of days ago. I think Sea Change has stronger, more distinct and memorable songs on their own while Morning Phase is more dreamy and the songs floats into each other more.
    Both are amazing albums!

Sea Change. I find Morning Phase to be boring.

Midnite Vultures is where it's really at. I'd take that album over the rest of his output combined.

a Change is excellent. The live shows at that time were the peak. Morning Phase is good. Mutations probably second to sea change. I also like Modern Guilt.

Wish Morning Phase would be properly mastered for SACD.

I notice that music direct has the MFSL Gold disc Sea Change in stock for 39.99 USD. Just got my copy yesterday... sounds amazing!

There is no MFSL SACD but if you're saying that the SACD is hands-down the best digital version, I agree.

I think Sea Change is Beck's most inspired album. Like countless other albums, the best material results from a tough breakup and heartache. I'm not nearly as into Morning Phase. Guero, the "rebound" album after Sea Change, has a lot more uptempo material that is equally inspired as well as a couple mellower tunes like Earthquake Weather that could fit right in on Sea Change. And Beck's layering of instruments, vocals and samples on Guero is brilliant. The demure "your base is good" and "hai" punctuations in Hell Yes are genius. So is the entire title song Guero. It's hard to find artists who are truly original anymore, but I can't think of anyone else who could come up with the opening lines and that oxymoron.

I'd buy it. Wish all Beck's stuff would be SACD'ed.

I think Sea Change and for that matter Guero are overrated in my humble opinion. I much prefer Morning Phase. The Information (2006) is a highlight for me too.
