SET vs OTL amps - which one offers true "tube" sound?

  1. not all OTL amp genarate that amount of heat,I designed and build an OTL using 2 x KT120 & 1 x 7788 per ch that I can put my finger on top of KT120 for 25 seconds.
     
  2. it looks like the 811 tube is not in anyway connected to the output

    The output tube is connected as a load to a switching power supply via an air core transformer. The switching supply thus has the audio signal imposed upon it- the switching frequency is then stripped out and what is left is a lower impedance version of the output signal from the power tube. Its not an OTL- since a matching transformer is clearly involved.

    And yet a clever and elegant way to 'mimic' the OTL sound in my opinion -- in that it provides a more 'direct' connection to the tube's output without going through all the wire of a traditional output transformer. This with a single output tube per channel, producing far more of the full frequency range and dynamic potential of the tube.
