    Sharp Unveils Blu-Ray Disc Recorder
    November 12, 2004

Sharp Corp. unveiled a large-capacity optical disc recorder equipped with a Blu-ray Disc drive, a hard-disc drive and a separate drive for conventional DVDs. The product is the world's first high-vision video recorder equipped with the three recording devices, said the consumer electronics maker based in Osaka, Japan.

Blu-ray Disc technology is one of two rival next-generation DVD formats. Kazuhiro Kitamura,
general manager at Sharp's products planning department, said the Sharp product is more compact and consumes less power than Blu-ray Disc recorder models made by Sony Corp. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Sharp will begin the domestic sales of the BD-HD100 model on Dec. 9 at a retail price of around ¥320,000 (about $3,000). The company said it is
considering marketing the product overseas but a specific schedule hasn't been set. Sharp said it plans to ship 10,000 Blu-ray Disc recorders this year through March 2005.

Kinda makes you wonder why they're even bothering with a Blu ray recorder when they're doing anything and eveything to keep you from copying in the first place.
