    For a long time I thought the song actually referred to a woman (real or fictional) named Sue D.O -- "Sue, Sue, Sue D. O."

    I even speculated D.O might be some kind of inside joke.

    Recently I read an interview in which Collins said he just mumbled any nonsensical word (Sussudio) and later found nothing good to replace it and it just stuck.
