Over the years, I have to come to notice the huge amount of songs, especially in rock, that use the name Johnny to describe a character that is youthful, rebellious, or an "everyboy". Rock-and-rolling Johnny characters are also common of course dating back to Johnny B. Goode. I must say the overuse of this name is a slight pet peeve of mine in some cases and I wish they could just use a less cliche name, but there are a lot of great songs containing it. What are some songs you can think of that mention a character named Johnny? whether they are good or bad. Bonus points for when "Johnny" is not in the song title itself. Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode and Bye Bye Johnny The Kinks - Johnny Thunder and Situation Vacant Black Sabbath - Johnny Blade Motorhead - Lost Johnny Television - Little Johnny Jewel Thin Lizzy - Johnny the Fox Blue Oyster Cult - The Marshall Plan St. Vincent - Prince Johnny Beastie Boys - Johnny Ryall Suicide - Johnny Riot - Johnny's Back Red Hot Chili Peppers - Johnny, Kick a Hole in the Sky
Johnny Stew (Lindsey Buckingham) Be Good Johnny (Men at Work) Johnny (Violent Femmes) Johnny One Time (Brenda Lee)
Johnny Hold Back - Charlie Johnny Angel - Shelley Fabares Juke Joint Johnny - Red Sovine Shooting Star - Bad Company
Of course there's Johnny who was a schoolboy when he heard his first Beatles song, in Bad Company's "Shooting Star"
The singer describes a voice referring to himself as Johnny - John Leyton, Johnny Remember Me: Best song of '61!
