What are some good songs that I have screaming/shouting in the background? I am listening to the Baby Face Leeroy Trio version of Rollin' and Tumblin' which has some of it which reminded me. For some reason I also like this in songs haha, another example would be Rainy Day Woman #1 and #2 and there are loads of others that I cant think of right now.

John Cale - "Fear (Is A Man's Best Friend)".
I remember being in the front row of a Cale solo gig where he played this at the piano and went utterly freaking nuts at the end. It was genuinely scary to experience.

Sounds like a cool thing to have experienced at least haha

Never heard the song, only ever listened to his first two solo albums. Will listen now though!

EXCELLENT mention! Cale did a lot of freaking out on stage but "Fear (Is A Man's Best Friend)" is one of the nuttiest, wildest of them all. I love everything Cale ever did. Genius.

Does it have to be in the background?

Fast forward to 3:35 for the good stuff.

First thing that came to my mind was Nine Inch nail's "The Becoming" from Downward Spiral.

    Plague Mass - Diamanda Galas.

That should suffice for those looking for good old fashioned WTF moments.

    I also recommend:

These tracks are works from Soundtracks of several Japanese Adult films - although one could argue they're moans, not screams.

    My highest recommendations goes to:

This was recently put out on Vinyl too. Red Bird is an amazing piece of Musique Concrete.

Finally, I don't own this yet - but man it's great (and funny). Patty Waters does the classic tune - Wild is the Wind. Make sure you listen to at least three quarters of it.

Was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention Screamin' Jay.

i love this track...the 3rd and the mortal's persistent and fleeting...not exactly in the background though

  18. I would say the Ballad of Dwight Fry by Alice Cooper may count.

There's a great scream buried in the middle of Super Furry Animals' 'The Man Don't Give a F**k'. It comes right at the end of the breakdown (middle 8? the song's a bit eccentrically structured) in which the band take over the looping refrain and it transitions us back into the Steely Dan sample they were imitating. Seems to be modelled on the similarly placed and structured climactic scream of 'Won't Get Fooled Again'.

( Also his "Leaving it Up to You" (1975), "Guts" (1975, about Kevin Ayers who'd had sex with Cale's then wife, apparently), "Magazines" (1984), and the studio version of "Mercenaries (Ready For War)" (1980), & others. )

Sonic Youth "Catholic Block" (1987) has a totally blood-curdling scream in the middle. Fantastic, fearsome song.

The Special AKA's 'The Boiler' is probably the ultimate "song with screaming in it" - and not necessarily in a good way. Perhaps the most harrowing piece of music to ever hit the pop charts.
