Soundtracks can be great if done right. My favorite type of soundtracks are the ones that use original recordings from the past & mixed in with recent recordings.

I do have an idea though. if a movie goes into an alternate reality, it would be cool if they could use alternate versions of hits from the time by the same artist. imagine a diner scene in “Yesterday” & an alternate version of “Brown Sugar” by the Rolling Stones was playing on the radio. Someone could also make a comment about how they were the number one group in the world (Since the Beatles didn’t exist). That would’ve been a riot! My opinion.

Great soundtrack by Herrmann for the classic sci-fi movie The Day The Earth Stood Still featuring the original Gort.

Wouldn't those technically be scores rather than soundtracks?

Groundbreaking use of the theremin. Later used by The Beach Boys in Good Vibrations.

A score is a subcategory of soundtracks. The word "soundtrack" itself is fluid; technically, the music, dialog, and sound effects all comprise the film's soundtrack.

If the hack who was quoted - I don't know know who he is - was referring to "songtracks," he should have been more explicit.

I love soundtracks. I have a bad habit of ordering reissues from varese sarabande, mondo tees and la la records...lol

I have bought the goonies gold vinyl release, The ghostbusters, nightmare on elm street, The cobra kai cd in a long box recently.

yesterday I bought the download of The Irishman soundtrack and I love it. Robbie Robertson's theme is fantastic and I believe he chose the music. Its really great and I can't stop listening to it.

There is a wonderful book called Killer Instinct by film producer Jane Hamsher, which details the making of Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers. One of the best parts of it is her breakdown of what a film’s “music supervisor” does, which apparently is little more than making mixtapes and getting a cut of the soundtrack proceeds
