I'm sorry to hear this. It is just an awful way to die, especially for someone who brought so much joy to everyone.

I can't tell you how hard I laughed in the SpongeBob movie at the line "I rode the Hasslehoff!"

That’s too bad. I think SpongeBob was really original.

I doubt it; let’s face it, Spongebob is a money maker for Nickelodeon and Hillenberg was barely involved if at all with Seasons 5-9.5

Wow..that’s so sad, and a horrible way to go. He brought a lot of laughter to my family, so I’ll always be grateful for his creativity. R.I.P.

Merged two existing threads on this very sad news and updated the thread title. Apologies for any contextual confusion as a result.

One of my favorite shows of the past 20 years. Sad to hear of his early illness and death. I hope the show can somehow do a fitting tribute to him.

    Rest easy, Mr. Hillenburg.

He left the world better than he found it.

Chris from Chicago Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes

A lot of kids shows made me want to stick a sharpened pencil in my eardrum and then cheese grate my retinas. Not this one.

Spongebob hit the perfect combo of being sweet enough for kids and demented enough for parents.

There was a cleverness there that was out of the ordinary. Truly one of the great cartoons. And I say that as someone who never got to experience watching it as a child.

I was really surprised when I heard this too. I thought, "He can't be that old." 4 years younger than me, I found out.

I watched Spongebob with my son for many years and enjoyed it as much as he did. Like the old cartoons I grew up with, Spongebob had something for everyone to enjoy.

    RIP Stephen Hillenburg
